Her trip to the Middle East had nothing to do with visiting the troops on their behalf. It had EVERYTHING to do with undermining the administration as well as their superior officers, creating doubt about their mission, and creating an illusion that there is a lack of support back home. The extra perk for her was this act of being Presidential and pretending to know something about war other than carrying a protest sign. In the year 1777, she would not have been allowed to return to the USA.
