Hillary Clinton urges slower handover

by Saturday 29 November 2003 11:33 AM GMT

Senator Hillary Clinton says President Bush is moving too fast to transfer power to the Iraqis by July.

"It's going to take more time than has been allotted for the process to take hold," the New York Democrat said during a brief stopover to visit US troops in Kuwait on Saturday.

"I don't think we should be setting artificial timelines as this is a very challenging undertaking and we need to work with our Iraqi counterparts and make sure that the steps that are being taken are going to work."

Washington's plan for handing power back to Iraqis has been criticised by the top cleric among Iraq's Shia majority for paying too little heed to Islam and including too little Iraqi involvement.

"We could look back and see the decision to attack Iraq was one that ended up being very, very costly"

Jack Reed, Democrat senator Clinton arrived from Iraq with fellow Democrat Senator Jack Reed, who said the United States had overextended itself in Iraq. He said a failure to get the Shias' backing for the handover plan could cause huge political problems in the future.

"We could look back and see the decision to attack Iraq was one that ended up being very, very costly and peripheral to the real enemies that are trying to attack the United States."

"And its connection with the terrorist cells that attack the United States are tenuous at best," he added, casting doubt on one of the administration's justifications for the invasion.

He said the US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan had critical shortages of specialised troops such as military police, civil affairs and psychological operations troops.

"We are beginning to see the cracks now because as these forces rotate out, and many of these troops here are reserve National Guard people who have that expertise, we don't have a second echelon of those types of troops," Reed said.

Clinton has ruled out a presidential bid next year, but Iraq is emerging as perhaps the greatest threat to Bush's re-election as American troops suffer casualties almost every day.

More troops needed

She said more troops, preferably an international force, were needed in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

"We are fighting an enemy which has a lot of impact by relatively small numbers and we've got to provide security throughout large countries. That's not easy with the force numbers that we have.

"In Iraq, I still think the administration should internationalise the military, political, civilian presence," she said.

"And that means to go to the United Nations, to go to NATO and to go to other willing allies and be willing to share the authority and power as well as the responsibility."

Hillary Clinton is doing a lot of damage right now. The more we see her story in the media, the more damage she does.

Personally, I think she's doing damage to her own party.

I say let 'er keep running her stupid mouth. She's sticking her big Marxist foot in it.

One cannot ignore her.

The best way to deafeat her is to put her on the defensive, and the defensive is to not only trash any plans she has to run for the presidency, but to put her in a very tight Senate race for her second term. I'd throw out possibility after possibility of candidates (real, imagined, whatever) to run against her.

In the meantime, I would really make sure her loathing of the military plays right into her demoralizing, hateful diatribe on enemy soil, and the approbation that Syria and AlJazeera gave her. It's always bad when the enemy and the enemy's mouthpiece approve of a United States Senator telling the troops that their sacrifice is in vain.

In short, I would go on the offensive.

Hillary would gladly have left women and children under the heel of the Taleban in Afghanistan, and Saddam still filling mass graves with slaughtered children in Iraq....she is interested only in undermining President Bush. If he actually did what she suggests, she'd be the first to say it was the WRONG thing to do.

Pardon the language, folks, but it's truly the only word that applies.

I can think of a better word. Rhymes with "hunt."

Hillary Rodham (rotten) Clinton and the Democrats are trying to turn this into a physiological war.

"In a demoralizing message to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq, visiting New York Sen. Hillary Clinton told them that Americans back home are growing increasingly skeptical of President Bush's decision to send them into battle."

Clinton said she told the troops, "Americans are wholeheartedly proud of what you are doing but there are many questions at home about the (Bush) administration's policies."

"She also suggested that the U.S. could eventually loose the war in Iraq, contending, "We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."

There is only one explanition that covers what a former First Lady, now a sitting Senator from NY, has done ---it is a treasonous act.

Well, if this does not prove that the Arab world listens to everything these leftists say, I do not know what will.

These people are giving comfort to the enemy as long as the enemy thinks America is divided or as long as they think there is a chance Democrats will regain power.

Anyone who thinks that terrorist acts are not done in conjunction with American news reports is mentally deficient. Ah, screw the PC crap, they are retards!!

Let's not forget that her husband, Mr. Clinton, pardoned FALN terrorists.

We've even forgotten that the FLN terrorists attacked Americans right in this country. And yes, Clinton pardoned them to help Hillary's campaign in NYC, with the Puerto Ricans. She like most socialists has a very special place in her heart for violence and control.
