Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Joseph Lieberman defended Sen. Hillary Clinton on Sunday, after she made politically toxic comments predicting possible U.S. failure in Iraq during what was supposed to be a morale-boosting visit to the troops on Friday. Asked if Sen. Clinton was wrong to voice such a pessimistic sentiment from the war zone, Sen. Lieberman told "Fox News Sunday," "In the most technical sense that we're in a war now in which, in the last month, we have lost more American soldiers than we have in any other month since the actual war began . . . in a technical sense, victory is not assured."
However, the Connecticut Democrat was quick to add, "But I will say this, there is no substitute for victory here. We must pull together across party lines here in the United States and we have to pull together with the rest of the world in a way President Bush has not been able to accomplish."
During a radio interview in Kuwait on Friday, broadcast just miles from the Iraq war front lines, Sen. Clinton warned, "We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."
She also admitted to telling U.S. troops directly earlier in the day that support for the war was starting to erode, explaining that Americans were raising "many questions at home about the (Bush) administration's policies."
While Sen. Lieberman was not asked about Mrs. Clinton's decision to criticize the Commander-in-Chief to troops stationed in a war zone, MSNBC commentator Bill Press said Hillary was right to blast Bush to G.I.s in Iraq.
"She said, 'Well, everybody supports the troops, but there's still a lot of questions about the policy.' And there are," Press told WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg on Sunday.
"I mean, you can't hide it," the former "Buchanan & Press" host added. "Bush's trip, great as it was, didn't change anything in the sense that there are still a lot of serious questions about this war."

Lieberman Commits Political Suicide alongside Hillary

Sounds like a reincarnation of Hanoi Jane. I imagine it went over with the troops just as well.

The Vietnam war was undercut from the start by democRAT hand-wringing. This is more of the same. Had Goldwater won in '64, America would have won Vietnam.

"Sen. Lieberman was not asked about Mrs. Clinton's decision to criticize the Commander-in-Chief to troops stationed in a war zone"I don't care what Bill Press' feelings on the subject are. I would like to know why the puff journalist didn't ask Lieberman that question. Clinton told soldiers in Iraq support for the war they're fighting is eroding. I'd like to know the yarmulka-king's thoughts about Hillary's UTTER lack of common sense or human compassion.
Probably maneuvering to be Hillary's runningmate.

What Joe Lieberman said:
"In the most technical sense that we're in a war now in which, in the last month, we have lost more American soldiers than we have in any other month since the actual war began . . . in a technical sense, victory is not assured."
What Joe Lieberman meant:
"Hillary and Bill Clinton have a death grip on the Democrat party. Since Hillary is the most high profile Democrat and still popular with the party base, she has carte blanche to do or say anything she wants. As a peon member of the Democrat party (and running for president), I will defend or excuse every stupid or embarrassing thing she says or does.

Lieberman proved during the 2000 election cycle that he is a whore. And a cheap whore at that. All Gore had to do is pick him for VP, and Joe the Whore changed his opinions on a whole slew of issues.
Now he's whoring for Clinton.
To: kattracks
We need to keep the RAT goal in mind here. The goal is to lose the war. The goal is to get more and more soldiers killed so that President Bush will have second thoughts (which he won't..they underestimate him once again), the goal is to make the soldiers think their Commander-In-Chief has sold them out for political gain, the goal is to undermine the President, the Pentagon and the entire United States. It is an ugly, horrific, anti-American strategy and Hillary Clinton is leading the parade. She must be removed from office.
To: hosepipe
Oh! the delicious stuff from Ann Coulter on this should be withering..Great thought. Did you read her latest "The Party of Ideas"? She talks about all the Dem. dwarfs using family tragedies and deaths all the time on the campaign trail, and finally gets to Dean. Check out Ann's wit here!
Howard Dean talks about his brother Charlie's murder at the hands of North Vietnamese communists. Bizarrely, after working on the failed George McGovern campaign, Charlie Dean went to Indochina in 1974 to witness the ravages of the war he had opposed. Not long after he arrived, the apparently ungrateful communists captured and killed him. Hey fellas! I'm on your s-- CLUNK! Howard Dean wears his brother's battered 1960s belt every day. (By contrast, Ted Kennedy honors the memory of his deceased family members with several belts every day.)

"We must pull together across party lines here in the United States and we have to pull together with the rest of the world in a way President Bush has not been able to accomplish."
Translation: Republicans must bow to us demoncraps, and we MUST turn over this mission and our sovereignty to the UN. Worldnetdaily.com has some articles regarding Walter Cronkite and hitlery and their views on giving up our government to join into the one world system. They are getting quite blatant with their views now. I guess that means the indoctrination of our children through state run schools is pretty much complete and they feel safe admitting where they are taking our country...

lieberman has supported the iraq war from the start. i read his comment about hillary a couple of times, and it doesn't read like much of a defense. he didn't want to attack her, so he found a verbal formula so that he didn't have to contradict her.
about democrats being cowards: many democrats have fought in wars defending our country. one of our greatest military victories, the battle of new orleans, was led by a democrat. i think the current crop of democrat candidates, with the exception of lieberman, are awful, but in the past they had kennedy and truman who were both patriotic.

Last night I turned on the NY City local news via my satellite. Probably about 6 shooting murders including one little baby girl shot in a drive by. This is a nightly occurrence there and in many other urban areas. Yet, in Iraq the liberal media is magnifying each shooting death like it was 10,000. 52,000 Americans were shot to death at Gettysburg over a 3 day period in 1862. Lets get real.

How do you top a Presidential perjurer?
Marry it with a treasonous Senator.
NY does not have recall, so she is safe from any voter wrath. What does it take for the Senate to censure a member? If McCarthy got it for being right, she deserves it in spades for being so very blatently hostile to the country she serves.

Even more horrifying imo, the goal is to win an election, at the cost of American lives.Exactly. We can only hope that a decent majority of the public can see through this. They hoped to win by a failed economy, which they were praying for at the expense of the American people, too. Now that that is slipping away, they can only pray for more dead soldiers. These people do not deserve to and are not fit to lead this great country.
To: drhogan
He found a verbal formula so that he didn't have to contradict her.I have found Hill's public statements since becoming Senator to be enormously well-calculated. I imagine them to be vetted and vetted again by the political evil genius she calls her husband, herself, and their clever minions.
This one puzzled me, however. There is no way to visit the troops, sow doubt, and gain a political edge. I was so confident this wouldn't happen that I suspected right-wing bias in the way this was reported. Clearly, NewsMax.Com gets great hits when it hits Hill.
Now from the defensiveness of Democrats even Joe Lieberman, I suspect she bumbled her words and missed the calculated parsing.

She put soldiers lives at risk for her cheap, political campaign. These guys had to give her escort in a war zone where terrorists shoot at our soldiers. She's damn lucky none of them got killed
