The Texas A&M football team has just finished a dreadful season, going 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the Big 12 conference, including a 77-0 humiliation at the University of Oklahoma. Texas A&M's athletic director, Bill Byrne, has a novel theory as to why his school is suffering athletically. He blames the Young Conservatives of Texas A&M, a student group, which held one of those "affirmative action bake sales":
"Free speech is not an issue for me, and differing political beliefs are not an issue for me, because I believe that reasonable people can disagree. But I'm disappointed over the national attention that Texas A&M University received recently because of a few individuals and their idea of a protest.
The Texas A&M Bake Sale plays right into the hands of those who recruit against us, in both athletics and in the general student population. They will use something like this to suggest that Texas A&M does not have a welcoming environment.
We all know that is not true. Unfortunately, a few individuals represented 45,000 students and an entire community in precisely the wrong light. My hope is that those of you who have a chance to influence public opinion will speak out against anything like this that discredits Texas A&M University. It causes me to redouble my efforts to do exactly that."

Talk about being a complete idiot. The team has a lousy season and the coach blames a protest?
What a tool.

seems quite the contrary to me...let the truth be told, then proven and recruits show up. tell the truth, they will come.
a majority of Aggies is Texans and Texans is truth tellers
, well except some there in Houston.

Is this the athletic equivalent of the "Twinkey Defense?"
I saw the game with Oklahoma and believe me, it's gonna take a load of Twinkeys to explain this season away. What an idiot. Must be a dem.

Did you hear about the aggie on the road going to college? Saw a sign that said Clean Restrooms ahead. By the time he got to campus he had cleaned 86 restrooms.

The repute which football coaches have for wisdom is unfathomable to me.
He's a farging football coach - not a philosopher!

The Texas A&M Bake Sale plays right into the hands of those who recruit against us, in both athletics and in the general student population. If we extend this theory to Iowa State recruiting,,, are we to assume the Bondage Club, funded by student fees, is going to increase or decrease enrollment?

University of Oklahoma has one of the most conservative coaches in America -- Bob Stoops and his staff. When invited to the White House after the 2000 National Championship season by Pres Bush, Bob Stoops came right and out said we supported you Mr. President.
Tell the Aggies they lost because they have an athletic director with mush for brains. The way they hired Franchionne from Alabama while firing Slocum the way they did, the Aggies deserve everything they have coming.
Was at the Oklahoma/A&M game -- The Aggies quit on their coach halfway through the 2nd quarter. We played everyone including the scout team and the Aggies still couldn't cross their own 41 yard line. Three first downs -- give me a break! Baylor gave more of a game by far then the Aggies.
They were pathetic and gave about 30% in that game. This is one game we could have scored a 100 or more. Taking a knee on first down on the 3 yard line with a lot of time left in the game should have been an embarrassment to the Aggies. Or how about letting the clock run in the second half and no time outs when the Sooners got first downs or either team ran out of bounds. Franchione saying if the clock hadn't been running, they could have least scored just added insult to his own program. They couldn't even get a first down against our scout team, how were they going to score. Then he said the ref never told him the clock was going to keep running but the ref said they did!
We put in plays with a fullback that have never been run here so we wouldn't score and what do the Aggie players do -- tackle our player in the backfield that was 10 yards behind the quaterback to not to score and then march around the field beating on their chest after the tackle in the 4th quarter down 77-0!
Texas A&M should be ashamed of their Aggie football team and the performance they put on here in Norman -- to quit and not try hard says a lot about their coaching staff and the players themselves. I would take Baylor's pride over the Aggies any day of the week for this season.
Maybe some Aggie can tell us Sooners why they wave white towels around -- that Saturday it looked like surrender flags. Don't you think waving a towel with the A&M red color would be more appropriate.
My two cents -- have zero respect for the Texas A&M football program right now -- they should get a clue from Baylor who never quit in our game. I have kept my mouth shut about that 77-0 win, but this article takes the cake. OU for their information is a conservative university for the most part as is Okie State who also clobbered the Aggies.
