Schwarzenegger's Alfred E. Neuman bond proposal

If Californians saw the recall of Gov. Gray Davis and the election of Arnold Schwarzenegger as a great opportunity to fix California's broken fiscal system and its dysfunctional government, they're likely to be sorely disappointed.

What they seem to be getting instead is warmed-over Davis proposals, rejected ideas going back to Gov. Pete Wilson, among them his "King Pete" initiative that would give the governor sole power to cut spending in tight times, and Alfred E. Neuman "what, me worry?" borrowing plans that Californians will be paying off for the next 30 years.

Maybe so, but the people of California pass bond measures more often than I change my socks. Angelides is a self-serving fraud, and this juvenile "Alfred E. Newman" cr*p is the highest intellectual achievement of the minds that put us in this mess in the first place

I never thought I'd ever substantially agree with anything McClatchy had to offer but with the exception of this phrase: "When budgets are out of balance ...cut taxes, slash programs for those who can afford it least I'm in agreement.

The Alfred E Neuman award for 2003 goes to Governor Schwarzenegger.

More suggested taxation, no substantial reductions in spending and the spectre of an AB60 look-a-like next spring. My guess is that the conservative wannabes that raced to Scvhwarzenegger side in late October are now beginning to suffer a larger than life politcal hangover while the rest of us take it in the shorts.

The truth is changing the liberal titan of Sacramento will take decades. I like the idea of tying it down in a long term debt it will have to service, hit it with a spending limit and watch the fun as liberals begin to take the axe to their own programs. Arnold knows better than any one else as to who should take the heat for California's economic morrass. Which begins and ends with the Democrats who created the problem in the first place.

Agreed, things won't turnaround overnight ... BUT does that mean we taxpayers and property owners here in CAlibania must now live thru a 30 year Nuclear Winter too?

People don't want simple solutions. It must be becuz they are products of the California socialist educational system. Some folks in this state just seem to enjoy getting skrewed and don't realize they are paying for it in more ways than they can ever imagine.
