I have one of those husbands that tells me at least several times a day that I'm beautiful, pretty, do I know how much he loves me, and things like that, for eighteen years now.
I sure do try to live up to what he thinks of me. I'll go schlepping through the kitchen in the am, arms stretched out in front of me like a zombie feeling around for a cup of coffee, bad case of bed head, walk by him and he says..."pretty girl"...I make a mental note to make him an appointment with his eye doctor, at the same time I'm smiling, correcting my posture and running a hand through my hair.

Always good for burning lots of calories... great for muscle tone too.

Always good for burning lots of calories... great for muscle tone too. If that were true, every single Jerry Springer guest would be slim and svelte. You know there's a lot of f***ing going on with those people.

"I've been told by my doctor that if I can do 30 minutes of walking a day, it will do me wonders (and it has)." One of THE very best fitness devices is a large dog that REQUIRES exercize. If you have the dog, the dog MUST go on his exercize walk and since he has to go, so do you. I have a Golden Retriever - female, aged 7 going on 1 1/2, who has to have her daily dash thru the entire neighborhood. This isn't just for pooping and peeing, but for the collection of the Doggie Daily News, which consists of how many squirrels are there and which trees they are up, which other dogs have been where and which new scents have shown up. It's a visual and olfactory feast and she gets loads of exercize while out "gathering the news." And guess what? So do I. We go at HER pace (my decision) so that I get as much exercize as she does. And we go 365 a year, weather regardless. It's hard to say which of us benefits the most.

Your husband sounds like mine! Nice, isn't it?
Those compliments make you care a lot more about how you look, IMO.

isn't that what the U.S. is known for - blaming someone else?

Anyone on the Jerry Springer show is NOT normal, and always the exception to the rule. The Jerry Springer show is a FREAK show.
They probably all vote democrat too.

Walking three miles or more a couple times a day is a couple hours of exercise each day - not easy for many people to dedicate that much time. Here's how I do it (and I have a very busy schedule). I used to get up at 6AM. Now I get up at 5AM so that I will have an hour to walk before starting the day. Nothing going on at 5AM so I always have the time. I usually find an hour to walk during the day. I do this in lieu of lunch at work. (I just wolf down a can of sardines or a bag of nuts for lunch.) If I don't have time to walk at work, I do it when I get home after dinner. Very rarely do I not find the time to do these two walks and I'm a very busy guy! Sometimes when work has me on the road, I'll pack my walking shoes and will do an impromptu walk wherever I happen to be. A couple weeks ago, I was in downtown Boston for an appointment and I took a 3-mile walk through the city along the Freedom Trail. What's great about walking is that you can do it virtually anywhere, anytime.
Now that I am getting towards my maintenance weight, I will probably be able to cut back to a single walk each workday with maybe two walks still on weekends and days off. If I can maintain weight doing that, that's fine.
If you are where you need to be weightwise and the 15-20 minutes a day allows you to maintain it, then that is great!

Heaven, indeed!
The trouble is, that our daughters are worried that there aren't any young guys out there who are as wonderful as their Dad (he just brought me a rose for no particular reason) for THEM to marry.
Well.....their brother is, but he doesn't count. :o)
Are there other fathers out there grooming their sons to be moral, gentlemanly, sweet and kind, but real men at the same time?
I hope it's not as rare as it seems........

Nah, it's not a good article at all. It's shallow, unsupported, and ignores fundamental facts with respect to marriage, women, AND men. We'll all be watching for your far superior effort.

Probably. Self inflicted stress does strange things to ones metabolism.
Come to think of it, the Springer show is a lot like reading a thread on DU, it's entertaining but painful at the same time.

Our doctor friend told us that for those of us in the over 50 category, it takes 40 minutes of aerobic exercise to really help weight loss, so we lengthened our (very brisk) daily walk, and it seems to help.
Of course, Thanksgiving put it all back on............sigh..........for me, it doesn't take much. Six months to take it off, six days to put it back on.

When wives put on a lot of weight, it is almost always the fault of an inattentive or distracted husband. Well it didn't take too long to find the core of this message ....
The other message it sends : Women, it's never your fault for failing to be personally responsible for your appearance.

Probably. Self inflicted stress does strange things to ones metabolism. If it does anything to it, it speeds it up. Depression slows it down.

We gals are blessed to have lucked into being in the company of husbands like ours. I sure do not take it for granted.
