President Bush's Baghdad turkey was for looking, not for eating.

In the most widely published image from his Thanksgiving day trip to Baghdad, the beaming president is wearing an Army workout jacket and surrounded by soldiers as he cradles a huge platter laden with a golden-brown turkey.

I don't watch tv (mainly because I don't have time and I can't sit still for two minutes) what ads? Ads against PETA?

We are the home of the freaks here. My hubbie was a supporter until they went off the deep end and Hollywoodized.

My son wants to open a BBQ next door to them.

A President who feels comfortable around his troops...like they were his own kids...takes the time and effort to joke around with them a bit...show his human side to them....

And yes it gets in the news...but so what...the troops love it...and that is what counts
and not some supercillious left wing reporter's whinings...

Anything that is good for the troops or that the troops appreciate..making their already tough jobs a bit easier...

Is going to be hated by the left wing conservaphobes....whose lesbophile princess...loathes the military and refers to those willing to lay down their lives for her...as "my pet pigs" (Hitlerly)

I was sure he was going to feed the whole regiment from that little turkey in the tray.

I never for a moment dreamed it was simply a photo-op.

I feel so betrayed. </sarcasm>

Its no different than the fake story about the British Air pilot seeing Air Force One during the trip to Iraq. Just done for news coverage.

...the big anti-PETA ads on the tube last night.

I only caught the last few seconds of that ad. Will you summarize the content, please?

I'll bet this bunch didn't remind anyone that XXX42 used prop stones to form a cross on the beach at Normandy with the ship in the background perched there, and that he picked up the American flag specifically laid there on the ground for him to place next to the gravestone.

All of the above replies say it all - big brouhaha over absolutely nothing. How ridiculous.

As someone said, this journalist (and I question that term with respect to this writer) must be paid by the word.

Sheesh!

So, IOW, he helped set the table AND serve dinner. What a guy!

Thanks again, Mr. President!

Everytime read of the Democrats complaining about photo ops, I think of Commander in Chief, William Jefferson Clinton leading the platoon over the hill at the White House...

The point has to be made over and over again, the Democrats have no credibility. Bill Clinton made sure of that.

That's the way it has always been.
I've cooked and prepared 4 Thanksgiving day feasts for the troops. We always cooked birds for display, then served sliced turkey breasts in the chow line.
What would they like to see, Bush carrying a 4" steam table pan full of sliced turkey, he would need hot pads and a strong back to carry it around.
This is so childish and reaching.

I just emailed the Compost and thanked them for stating the obvious. Did the author think that one turkey was going to feed 600 troops?

No, but its pretty obvious that the Post thinks Bush is a turkey. This is really a non-story--it was clear to most observers that he was simply impressed with the decorative creation. What's also clear is that the Compost is using "story" to cast Bush in a deceptive light.

Nevertheless, the foray has opened new credibility questions for a White House that has dealt with issues as small as who placed the "Mission Accomplished" banner aboard the aircraft carrier Bush used to proclaim the end of major combat operations in Iraq, and as major as assertions about Saddam Hussein's arsenal of unconventional weapons and his ability to threaten the United States.

Of course, the White House wouldn't have to deal with this trivium if the press would keep treating it as if it were putting us one step away from a nuke-you-ler holocaust (another non-issue if the press wouldn't have turned it into one). If they ever figured out the difference between "news" and "Bush bashing" the White House could spend more time on mundane stuff like the Global War on Terror, The Expanding Economy, and other such stuff that the press can't seem to report on properly.

Shalom.
