"The Reagans," the controversial made-for-TV movie finally made its way into American homes this week but not nearly as many homes as originally planned after CBS moved it to its smaller, premium cable channel Showtime. I watched the entire three-hour melodrama in order to participate in a special Showtime panel discussion, aired after the movie, along with five other people who were invited to comment.

"The Reagans" is a poorly written, wildly inaccurate, and in general a hatchet job. Conservatives were right to criticize it, CBS was wrong to pull from the network and exile it to Showtime. The best thing you can do with inaccuately-portayed history is to debunk it.

That this program was made the way it was is no surprise from Hollywood. What is surprising (or maybe not) is that most conservatives were apparently fine with (or at least had nothing to say about)the poorly written and wildly inoculate account of Jessica Lynch as portrayed in the recent NBC-TV movie about her. I guess Hollywood's lies and distortions are OK when they serve our political worldview.

There is the question of proportion. When Jessica Lynch is as important to American history as Ronald Reagan, it will be time to get as exercised about her portrayal.

Perhaps we just didn't watch the Jessica Lynch story. I didn't.

Since you're brand new here, I guess you never got involved in any Jessica Lynch threads.

Look up any FreeRepublic Jessica Lynch thread in "Search" and then come back and tell us that the media orgy regarding Lynch was "apparently fine" by us.
