Still, no one is suggesting that Osbourne should be prosecuted for his prescription drug addiction, an addiction that started with normal medical treatment. Another sensational case that should have been treated similarly is that of Rush Limbaugh.
I must have missed the occasion where Osbourne expressed the view that illegal use of drugs should be vigorously prosecuted and the illegal users should be imprisoned.
You also missed dogs that didn't bark--Rush evading the drug issue from the time he realized that he was in a glass house himself. That's what he says he did, and as a faithfuI listener I cannot doubt that that is the truth. What would you do if you found yourself in a similar position?

Pulling up an isolated, and old, quote cuts no ice with me. But my opinion doesn't count; I'm just a hypocritical Republican who thinks that Social Security shouldn't have been instituted in the first place--but who cashes a Social Security check every month, and is glad to have it.

The Conservative supporters of the WOD, who are also Rush fans, brought this on themselves.

I thought he was in for selling bongs.

Well, some might have been porcelain or wood, so he was arrested for selling glass, porcelain, wood, and perhaps plastic.

Still, it's creepy and immoral that the state is getting away with prosecuting someone for selling inanimate vessels, isn't it?

It's a creepy and immoral police state.

I have nothing but admiration for Rush, yet this is still a problem he brought on himself. Rush should have known that if he ever stepped the least bit out of line, the lib powers-that-be would come down on him with everything they have. Methinks the statement he read on the air the other day by his lawyer contained a little too much "whining" and not enough self-responsibility. Rush has demonstrated the latter by taking full responsibility for his actions and by successfully completing rehab. He needs to extend that attitude through this whole ordeal, no matter how ugly his enemies try and make it for him. Rush is a class guy and I want him to stick to his guns. By the way, it has always been a mystery to me why a massive slander campaign of lies has never been launched against Rush the way one was orchestrated against poor Art Bell a few years ago. Rush has been lucky in that aspect. (If only being called a bigot, homophobe, chauvinist, etc. can be called lucky!)

The media is salivating over this story. It will eventually go away.

Yeah, bongs. Inanimate vessels. Tubes of glass. What don't you get?

I can easily kill a man with a screwdriver, let alone machete, but may purchase and sell these items freely, with what little liberty remains.

Do you know how many people were killed by bongs last year? More than were killed by 5 gallon buckets.

There is no moral or just reason for Tommy Chong to be in jail. And if the police state we in which we now live is so complete as to be able to jail Chong, then how much moreso Rush?

If one is going to be a freedom hating statist, at least be consistent.

Why aren't the anti-WODers also defending Rush?

I am an Anti-War on Some Drugs type who wishes state and federal government would stop being everyones ever-watchful nanny. As for the Rush case, what do we have? A guy who had surgery and got addicted to pills, and a maid who made a quarter of a million bucks selling her "story" to the enquirer as a "witness?" No wonder no charges have been filed against Rush.

You would need to direct that question to them.

Why would you want to bring him down?

He is bringing himself down, and very possibly abusing his loyalists in a fashion similar to how Clinton abused his.

Personally, I abandoned Rush for good when he chose Netanyahu and Sharon over President Bush at a very critical juncture.

That's pretty much what I see. I'm going to defend the guy. I don't want him off the air.

I've never been a big fan of Limbaugh but I do respect his efforts to give the American people at least some insight into the mismanagement of this country by fedgov bureaucrats and such. Also being from the school of thought that when the foibles of high profile gov't officials, talkshow hosts and other celebs are highly publicized by the mainstream mediots it's usually done to punish an individual who's possibly straying from the party line or is rebelling against "the powers that be" in some form or fashion. It's obvious Limbaugh has pi$$ed off some major players in gov't or media and now his image is slowly being de-constructed by those in a position to do so.

I don't feel that.

OK, that makes sense. You want to take him down because of another issue so you're piling on about the drugs.

I am. Rush is a perfect example of how a hard-core drug addict can lead a productive life. Why should other hard-core drug addicts languish in jail when they too could have a chance to lead a productive life?

I won't lose a moments sleep whether he goes down or not.

And I can respect that opinion, but how do you feel about this investigation -- which I do believe to be politically motivated and supported by our shared enemies -- into his personal drug use?

I agree with you 100 percent. Tommy Chong does not belong in jail. The very technical violation of the law he committed should have and could have been handled with a warning.
