Conservatives are now the "Blacks" of the Republican Party

In a discussion on this thread Tom Ridge's Immigration Remarks Draw Fire a post regarding the conservative angst about the recent campaign finance reform that Bush signed into law and that the Supreme Court approved (and the approval was praised by the White House), on the heals of the Medicare entitlement enacted under a Republican controlled government the following was posted:

I'm hearing Rush now. He claims the republicans have ONLY one party to go to. He has put this issue squarely on the problem. We need to vote outside of this corrupt party apparatus.

I also heard this on Rush and my blood boiled. Rush said conservatives have no place else to go and thus will continue to vote as a block to the Republicans.....and then it hit me. That is exactly what we conservatives lament about Blacks and the Democratic party. Black Democrats who vote straight Democratic and are rewarded by being ignored.

In other words, Conservatives are now the "Blacks" of the Republican Party!!!

I urge the same solution to Republican conservatives that Black conservatives offer to Black Democrats. QUIT! Become independents and let the parties fight for our votes. If we can't take the GOP back we should leave the GOP.

I did not change. My party did. I thank God Ronald Reagan is unable to comprehend what is happening to the party he saved.

What's the difference between Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, or Howard Dean as President and George W. Bush ?
Do the words honor, duty, country mean nothing to you ?
Do you not care that Islamic terrorists crashed planes into our principal city and capital and want to completely destroy our nation ?

No, I think not. You want to pimp political equivalence. After 8 long years of Bill and Hillary Clinton polluting the White House, after the first attacks on our capital since 1812, after the brave heroism of American service members, I don't want to hear your garbage. Treason, cowardice, and surrender are not on my shopping list this year.

I'll count you as another conservative for Dean. Yeah, right ...

It must be tough watching the demise of the illusion.

The GOP base is more than just conservatives.

Pray tell then, what do you think is the majority of the "GOP base"?

...why does it bother you?

It's demeaning and can be racial and racist, as you know.

Probably the combined liberal and moderate republicans.

Probably the combined liberal and moderate republicans.

And what are liberal republicans? They always struck me as internal rot; subversive refugees from the Democratic party. But that's just my opinion.

Zell Miller is now one of the plague according to the conservatives of all conservatives on FR. He voted for CFR.

I have wrestled with a lot of these dilemmas over the course of the last two years in large part because, going to the UN aside, I've approved of Bush's foreign policy and am quite frankly terrified at the prospect of Dean getting into office because of what he would do to us in regards to the war.

On the other hand, Bush's domestic policy has been far, far from ideal especially on the areas of fiscal conservatism with his government spending spree as well as social conservativism with his extreme reluctance to throw his support behind Senator Frist's DMA or even to address the kind of judicial abuse that led to the DMA being needed to begin with.

Now what I like to try to remain hopeful of is that Bush is going to recognize that he is losing horribly with his base and make changes to rectify his mistakes - otherwise I see a very real scenario where a low conservative turn-out could give us a President Dean. And if that happens, God help us all.

It must be tough watching the demise of the illusion.

What illusion ?
The illusion that people who call themselves conservatives haven't learned the lesson of 8 years of Hillary in the WH ? The illusion that some people are too stupid or evil to know the difference between George W. Bush and Dean/Clinton/Clark ?

That illusion ?

Do you even know the definition of racism? It's the belief that one race is superior to another. Do you see anything like that here?

In case you don't comprehend the analogy, democrats have taken the black vote for granted because of the belief in the 'where else are they going to go?' philosphy. They keep promising them what they want to hear to get their vote but faili to deliver. That's becoming true of the republican party. They'll give lip service to some conservative ideals, but end up going with big government instead, because who else are the conservatives going to vote for?

God helps those that help themselves, and if you allow a Dean Presidency, you ain't helping.

No, that is dereliction of duty and cowardice under fire. There is only one right vote in 2004. The correct solution to the general problem is the impeachment and removal of selected judges from office and heavy lobbying for conservative judges nominated by President Bush.

It's true. The Republicrats know we have nowhere else to go, and they take full advantage of that fact. Yesterday I officially changed my voter registration (I'm now a Independent). I'll still vote for individual Pubbies, but they're now going to have to earn my vote in a big way. No more "voting the lesser of two evils" nonsense. .....It's a sucker vote.

"I thank God Ronald Reagan is unable to comprehend what is happening to the party he saved. "

There were people like you around when Reagan was President (I was one of them) who said the same things about Reagan that you are saying about Bush.

20 years from now people will be saying the same things about that President and wishing for the good old days of Bush.

What illusion ?

The illusion that there is any difference in substance. The illusion that Republicans defend the constitution. The illusion that people like you can count on conservatives to be continually scared into voting for Dem-lite. The illusion that people will give you their votes forever no matter how much you belittle and insult them and that you will get them to vote for your choice while you call them evil and stupid.

That illusion.

I would chalk Bush Sr.'s electoral defeat in 1992 up to the loss of his conservative base due to among many reasons his braking the no new taxes pledge, the ADA and of course the appointment of Justice Souter. Perot was the end result of Bush losing his base, not the cause.
