Don't waste your time. Party hacks will all expose themselves by now supporting amnesty in some form- rewarding criminals w citizenship.

None of them were for it until the admin floated the trial balloon. Now they say they will wait to judge. Next they will say the McCain plan is acceptable, there is no other choice, it is actually BENEFICIAL, and get with the program or be cast out.

The issue of illegals already inside the US aside, what do you think would be a good immigration policy?
Who should we let in?
From where should we let people in?
How many should be allowed entry?
What process should there be for gaining citizenship?

I certainly want the "Atzlanti" "activists" expelled from the United States. Every indication that I have seen is that they have no loyalty to this country nor respect for our rights.

Most of those activists are U.S. citizens. How do you propose to expel them without violating the Constitution? Charges of sedition and treason are hard to prove.

Yes. The nationalities you mention have come to this country legally. The recipients of this "amnesty" haven't.

If, however, you are busy applying your abilities elsewhere I suppose the INS could check the records of the country they are from, use polygraphs, or other time-tested methods.

Mexico doesn't have much in the way of records on dirt poor peasants. Polygraphs? How much would it cost to polygraph every one of several million people entering the U.S. each year.

Again, how do we apply this to the hundreds of thousands who sneak in at night and in the backs of trucks?

Joe, do yourself a favor and try reading things without getting so emotional. I don't know why this move is being made right now and neither do you. Hence my theory its a trial balloon. You want to disagree with me, fine, but instead of acting silly, offer something substantive. If this isn't a trial balloon, then what is it?

At the very least. If they are publicly floating these proposals, imagine what they support but will not unleash until after the election. I foolishly believed Bush would push a more conservative agenda after reelection. Now I know, without a doubt, that he will move even farther to the left. Hold on to your wallet.

And people use the excuse "He will appoint 1 or 2 conserv justices to the SC". He won't. He would select moderates.

But, it does not matter. Activist judges, by definition, will NEVER step down while Bush is president, even if for 4 more years. It is an impossible event, unless someone dies! A non issue.

Dane, I can't believe your post #52 & #53. You've slipped a cog or two. You used to make some pretty good arguments on other threads, although I rarely agreed with most of them. When it comes to the problem of illegals, you've dropped the ball.

Your list reflects my thinking almost exactly. The only thing I would add is make the employment verification system that is currently voluntary, mandatory.

Don't know if anyone has responded yet, but I just saw something in the last two or three days regarding that program...I think one of the funding bills passed by both houses recently continues it. Problem is, I also believe it is still voluntary. It ought to be like NICS for gun sales...no approval, no gun. No approval, no job.

I became convinced when:

1) Columnists in their back pocket played down or explained away these bombs.

Yes there were several threads on the subject here's one: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1025355/posts It is voluntary and has been expanded to all 50 states. We are already required to provide proof of identity and a social security card when hired into a new job. It makes sense to have a system to verify that the proofs offered are legitimate.

It seems to me that a govt, of which GW is executive, that can enforce a drinking age of 21, a speed limit of 55 and pull the strings of the education marionette, can force compliance on such a simple matter as this. It just takes the will, the act of compliance by local municipalities will follow. Cut off federal funds, the mayors will bow to Washington DC, as they are trained to.

The problem isn't with the laws - it's with the political will to enforce any immigration policy other than amnesty.

I believe that immigrants should pay reasonable fees for whatever costs they incur.
I would like the borders effectively sealed. The way anyone can simply walk into the US with almost anything is a major breach of security.
