Ted Kennedy FReep Report Austin,Tx 12/12/03
Posted on 12/12/2003 9:14:10 PM PST by DrewsDad
Ted Kennedy was invited by The Texas Civil Rights Project as the keynote speaker at their 13th Annual Bill of Rights Dinner in Austin, Texas. Ted brought with him dreary weather with intermittant drizzle thoughout most of the day. Despite terrible traffic and conflicts with other meetings, we managed to get 5 Freepers and RLC(Republican Liberty Caucus) members out to FReep Teddy on a miserable evening. The honor roll includes Basil, Gracey, Sue, Don, and myself.
We setup on the public sidewalk at the entrance to the Four Seasons hotel where Teddy was speaking. There was a stoplight at the entrance, so we had a significant amount of traffic in addition to all those arriving for the dinner who had to drive by us. We had numerous displays of the Democrat IQ(1 middle finger) as well as a few who rolled down there window to insult President Bush. We responded with chants of "FOUR MORE YEARS" and "DON'T DRINK AND DIVE" among others.
We stayed around until the entering traffic pretty much died down. Afterwards, most of us returned for the rest of the RLC meeting and enjoyed various Thai dishes that I won't attempt to spell. The conditions were less than ideal, but we had good food and fellowship while ticking of a significant number of liberals. Great job Heart of Texas Freepers and RLC members.

You deserve combat pay for being a conservative in Austin.
The majority of conservatives in Austin are there because they were elected from somewhere else in the state.

Thanks for getting the report up, DD!
The only observations I can add are that it seemed to me to be a sparse crowd coming in. Of course we have no idea of how many were already inside when we arrived, but we were there an hour before the event started. Also, it seemed very low key--no media that we could see, no security personnel, other than the guy working for the hotel.
Also, Gracey and I had an interesting conversation with the hotel security guy. I can't relate much of the conversation in the event that his supervisor at the hotel happens to read this. Suffice it to say, this guy is way over the top as a 2nd Amendment supporter.
I am still astonished at the number of one finger salutes we always get. It just looks odd to me to see a well dressed woman, riding in a $100,000 automobile to suddenly look us in the eye and flip us the bird. I suppose money can't buy character. We did get one thumb's up from some older guy going into the hotel--and probably to the meething, though.

Well-done, Austin FReepers! Those are some great signs. I especially like basil's T-shirt.
Ted Kennedy is a disgrace, an embarrassment and a has-been. May the voters of Mass. retire him soon.

I found it stupidly ironic that Ted Kennedy was speaking at a function honoring the Bill of Rights---I'm still reeling over that---LOL!

Good Job!
Please keep it up. I do not work downtown anymore, so I can't do any of my one-man five minute freeps on the creeps who pollute the Capital steps during the day.
When I worked downtown, the hags from "Women in Black" would infest the South steps of the Capital to spew their anti-Bush vomit. Of course, for at least 5 to 10 minutes of their day, they had to endure more than an ear full from me, which made their day not an entirely pleasant one.

Sorry, I didn't notice that you were being held against your will in conversation with someone I hadn't met before attending my first RLC meeting last night. Sometimes you have to take Nancy's advice and just say NO.

There were probably less than fifty folks in the lobby when I went in, but most of them may have been in a seperate dining area already.
BTW, where can one get a shirt like that?

Sorry we didn't get the word out better. This was pretty much a last minute decision whether to go or not with the weather issues and the meeting conflicts. We probably need to have someone monitor these FReep opportunities a little closer.

That's 10 minutes more than they would have received and it will raise their consciousness of exactly what the public thinks on the issues. Most people won't confront them and that's a shame.

Now if he would only take a ride in a convertible in Dallas..... Now, now, Ted's character and behavior (i.e. manslaughter) make him more of a candidate for Attica than Arlington.
He is sort of a national ASSet. Grain alcohol can fule cars, run powerplants and heat homes. If the government nationalizes his body after he dies, they could sell the drilling rights to his liver. We'd have energy independence and solve defecit spending for all time.

Alissa, that sign went to California with me. I freeped in Fresno with it. It's traveled all over the country. The edges are beginning to fray but it's still holding up fairly well. I still LOVE the words. It says it all.
Alissa, the sign still reminds me of our FReeping President Bush in San Antonio, when Jim Robinson was with us. It rained so hard... we all were sopping wet, and yelling our heads off at the lefties. Jim Rob was at his best, interviewing, yelling and just giving them hell. LOL
