BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Celebratory gunfire rang out across the Iraqi capital, radios played festive music, drivers honked their horns and passengers on buses and trucks chanted "They got Saddam, they got Saddam," as word of the former dictator's capture spread from car to car and shop to shop on a sun-filled Sunday afternoon.

At the Palestine hotel, where foreign journalists and American contract workers are staying, Abil Daoud was sad. "We lost our only hope and now we are stuck with the Americans," said Daoud,
who is employed by U.S. troops as a local security guardWHAT????

I love how they called the mission "Red Dawn." I have the DVD sitting on top of my TV right now. Think I'll watch it tonight with a smile on my face.

This may have been answered before, but what's up with the red flags the Iraqi people are waving? (in celebration of Saddam's capture of course) They look like Soviet flags. Kinda freaked me out.

Shows what we're up against over there. Every other Iraqi on our payroll is a spy.

Those are Iraqi commies, banned under Saddam, but well organized now. That is outside their headquarters. Guess there were no other happy people for the media to show. /sarcasm

But probably not all are as incredibly stupid as this one.

News bias? On FNC, during their interviews with various people, have footage of thousands of Iraqi's celebrating in the streets. On CNN and MSNBC, when not showing clips of Saddam and the farm house, have shown a podium in front of a wall. Its disgusting that they won't the reaction of the Iraqi people. I guess they con't want the American people to see the jubilation, in case it might be favorable to Bush.

Whoops. Time for someone to get a pink slip. Perhaps a little incarceration might be in order.

I see that someone already responded to tell you that those were the flags of the Iraqi Communist Party.
But, I'm not sure that they are really very good at the communist thing. They were marching for democracy the other day at the pro-democracy rally.

NBC just showed Iraqi's clapping and firing pistols into the air, but claimed that they were a pro Sadddam group!!....apparently with a strange way of celebrating the decapitation of the head guy.

someone should do a search on the name "daoud"...If I remember correctly, he's been quoted by reporters in the past...
John Burns of the NYTimes pointed out a lot of reporters stay in their hotels and have rehired the same people who watched/helped them under the saddam regieme...

"We lost our only hope and now we are stuck with the Americans," said Daoud, who is employed by U.S. troops as a local security guard. Some called Saddam a "coward" for getting caught. Others were glad he didn't die a martyr. Why the he!! is this guy in our employ??? As a security guard??!! They can't find any anti-Saddam Iraqis to hire?
