Among those in their glory Monday at the capture of Saddam Hussein was movie director John Milius, an unapologetic traditionalist who has long contended he is blacklisted by liberal Hollywood for his love of the military.
The Army's 4th Infantry Division, which used 600 troops to capture Hussein, apparently borrowed the operation's code name Red Dawn from Milius' 1984 Cold War drama of that name.
In the flick, Soviet troops invade America, only to be repelled by a resistance movement coordinated by a group of Colorado high school students.

"Milius said he was preparing to go duck hunting Sunday when friends woke him up.
"They said, 'We just caught Saddam! The best part is, it's Operation Red Dawn! Task Force Wolverine!'

Great movie! I bought it for my 16yo son a few weeks ago (I had seen it years ago and loved it). I think he's watched it 10 times already.
Sorry to see that the director is blacklisted. Doesn't surprise me though that the "liberal" and "progressive" left would treat him like that.

Seems like an odd use of analogy. The movie "Red Dawn", after all, pitted a small group of insurgents fighting valiantly against the people who invaded their country...
The equation doesn't work very well here, considering that the roles of invader and insurgent are sort of switched around from the movie scenario.

The good guys versus bad guys analogy still works.
The movie probably inspired some of these guys to defend America and join the military.

Well when the movie came out it really annoyed the lefties, so that part is appropriate. >:)

Dillinger, Wind and the Lion, Conan the Barbarian, Flight of the Intruder, Farewell to the King BUMP!
He also did the screenplay to Apocalypse Now, which would have been a much better movie if Coppola had kept Milius's ending.

Spoiler! What was Milius's ending? Have you read Dispatches by Michael Herr? Some scenes from A.N. were borrowed from the novel. Herr also wrote Williard's monologue in the first scene.

Yes, one my mine and my bro's favorite movies as kids. I'm not sure it really holds up today, but it brought back memories.
