"..street value of $8 to $10 Million..."

Where? New York? Certainly not Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, or anywhere this 40 foot vessel could make it to.

That amount of hash wouldn't be worth very much in that part of the world. What "officials" come up with these numbers...ex-Enron accountants?

The Persian Gulf being within the apparent jurisdiction of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, I hope the Navy read these gentlemen their rights under the US Constitution and didn't try to interrogate them without their lawyers present.

U.S. Navy seizes boat with drugs linked to al-Qaeda

11:03 AM CST on Friday, December 19, 2003

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Navy has seized a boat in the Persian Gulf carrying two tons of hashish and four people tied to the al-Qaeda terrorist network, the military said Friday.

The guided missile destroyer USS Decatur intercepted the boat on Monday, U.S. Central Command said in a statement. On board were two tons of drugs worth an estimated $8 million to $10 million and 12 people, four of whom have suspected ties to al-Qaeda, the statement said.

The boat, a wooden vessel known as a dhow, was near the Straits of Hormuz, the narrow part of the gulf between Iran and Oman, the statement said. The area is a known smuggling route used by Osama bin Laden's terrorist network, the statement said.

American forces searching the boat found 54 70-pound bags of hashish, the statement said. The investigation which followed found clear ties between the drugs and al-Qaeda, the military said.

The Decatur is part of a U.S. Navy force including the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.

Very doubtful that the hash's final selling destination would be the next port of call.

Undoubtedly meant for the mean streets of Europe and/or the US.

Actually Middle Eastern Hash has been quite scarce in this country since the early/mid 80s.Thats when the Christian Phalange lost control of the Bekka valley .All government "subsidized" air-shipments ceased.
