O'Reilly's Book Hits #1 on NY Times List
NewsMax ^ | 12/21/03 | Limbacher

Cable news talker Bill O'Reilly's latest book, "Who's Looking Out for You?" is on top of the New York Times nonfiction bestseller list -- hitting the #1 spot during the prime Christmas book buying season.

O'Reilly's book has leapt ahead of screeds by left-wing bomb-throwers Al Franken and Michael Moore.

The Fox News host's return to the top of the heap comes as "Living History," the Hillary Clinton memoir that O'Reilly has vowed to outsell, is nowhere to be found on the printed Times list.

Mrs. Clinton's book, which was expected to be a big holiday seller, has even disappeared from the extended list of the nation's 35 top selling books that the Times posts online.

On Amazon.com, "History" continues to sell relatively well, with the former first lady coming in Sunday at number 56. But even there, O'Reilly's book is selling at a much brisker pace, with "Who's Looking" turning up in the number 11 slot.

While Clinton's publisher Simon & Schuster says she has sold 1.5 million copies, reports suggest that figure may be inflated by as much as 30 percent.

And while O'Reilly still has a lot of ground to cover before he catches the top Democrat, his return to the top of the Times list suggests he may yet reach his goal.

Clinton's book has been in stores since June 9, and in the ensuing 28 weeks she has devoted considerable time to nearly 40 book signings. "Who's Looking" debuted 13 weeks ago. Earlier this month O'Reilly told his radio audience has had time for only two book signings.

O'Reilly's publisher Random House told the Washington Post on Saturday that "Who's Looking" is in its sixth printing, with nearly one million copies shipped to bookstores.

Does this exclude large book purchases? Not that a certain commentator on FOX would purchase thousands of books to boost his ranking.

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX THU DEC 18, 2003 09:25:08 ET XXXXX

HOST UNHINGED AFTER SALES FIGURES REVEALED; CALLS DRUDGE 'THREAT TO DEMOCRACY'

TalkerAuthor Bill O'Reilly lashed out against this space during his popular FOXNEWS O'REILLY FACTOR Wednesday night -- just hours after closely guarded book sales figures were splashed over the internet.

Sales figures show how, contrary to his claims, O'Reilly lags far behind rivals Al Franken and Sen. Hillary Clinton for nonfiction props!

MORE

Responding to an exclusive yearender DRUDGE dispatch, which presented NIELSEN's Top 20 BOOKSCAN list of 2003 sales, O'Reilly called the DRUDGE REPORT a "threat to democracy."

"I mean you can't believe a word Matt Drudge says," O'Reilly told the cameras. "Now you've got the Matt Drudges of the world and these other people, Michael Moore and all of these crazies, all right, no responsibility... that is a threat to democracy, I think." O'Reilly warned: "They'll just spin it and twist it and take it out of proportion every which way."

MORE

Last year, the host of Cable TVs most-watched newscast became unbuckled and turned unstable after this space first revealed how O'Reilly was plotting a new radio program to air opposite Rush Limbaugh [who had just lost his hearing] and how WOR-AM in New York would receive cash compensation from VIACOM to carry the program. [The broadcast launched several months later.]

MORE

"There is no other cure than to kill Matt Drudge," O'Reilly charged on the IMUS in the MORNING radio show.

"I just want to tell everybody that Matt Drudge is smoking crack - right now, in South Miami Beach on Washington Avenue... And the authorities should know it."

I don't believe it. Maybe some of these buyers need fuel for their fireplaces and woodstoves.

BOOK YEARENDER: O'REILLY TRAILS FRANKEN IN SCANNED SALES; 'SOUTH BEACH' TOP OF NONFIC LIST

FOXNEWS's top-rated host Bill O'Reilly recently claimed that he is "running against Hillary for most copies of nonfiction books sold this year!"

But numbers obtained by the DRUDGE REPORT show a dramatically different sales scene for 2003.

NIELSEN, the same company that ranks O'Reilly #1 on Cable TV, currently places O'Reilly at #6 for the year on the nonfiction charts -- trailing rival Al Franken by nearly 30%!

[O'Reilly ranks #63 on USA TODAY's 2003 sales chart.]

"We've outsold that guy [Franken] all over the place," O'Reilly claimed Monday on NBC's TODAY show. "We're running against Hillary for most copies of non-fiction books sold this year!"

However many books O'Reilly mioght have bought, they pale in comparison to the bulk purchases of Hillary's book by Democrat-connected organizations such as unions and the DNC.

That having been said, O'Reilly should tone himself down, he's beginning to sound unhinged.

I wonder how many of these new book sales are from the Big 'O' himself, hahahaha.

The Big 'O' is losing it and I'll be glad when he's gone...

"O'Reilly's book has leapt ahead of screeds by left-wing bomb-throwers Al Franken and Michael Moore."

The implication by the Mr. Limbacher, of NewsMax, is that a "conservative" as dethroned the other two liberals.

Let's look at Mr. O'Reilly's defense of "conservative" principles:

--he supports CFR (violates First Amendment)

--he supports assualt weapon ban (violates Second Amendment)

--he supports regulation of business (violates the Fifth Amendment)

--he supports WOD (violates the 9th Amendment)

--he supports federal law trumps state law (violates the 10th amendment)

He is a loud mouth statist/socialist bordering on communist.

O'Reilly likes to see himself as common-sense populist but his views and principles changes daily and he is so erratic that the only thing you can be certain Bill O'Reilly is for is Bill O'Reilly.

And he is either lying to his entire audience about the scope of the AWB or he is truly a very ignorant man.

After his comments about Drudge I have had very little respect for him and I stopped watching him.

After reading what you posted, it makes me hate him even more.
