While it would be far more reassuring if I could believe your viewpoint, I can't.

The code system is somewhat lame, and the majority of the American public either wants to pretend that 9/11 was a fluke and can not or will not happen again..... or takes the view of "so what....there's nothing I can do."

For some reason, THIS time I hope that we will take THIS warning to heart. Prayer is a great place to start. In addition, we need a freeper family plan in place.

Usually, I take elevated codes with a grain of salt, but as of this morning, I would like to know if any of the rest of you are feeling a deep sense of concern (okay, even some impending doom). Is this what terrorists want? Of course. BUT, I also think it is prudent to at least begin to think of how we might handle the unthinkable.

While this article was a reasonable read, it strikes me as very detached from the real reasons for THIS code elevation. Just a few things to think about: Only several days ago a story on AP cited that there was no reason at this time to raise the threat level....why NOW? Libya has been updating us on al Queda intel (according to the British Press) WHAT did they say Friday????? On one site which has had dependable information there is alarm on not only the amount of chatter, but the amount of excitement....and INCITEMENT....also a change in the nature of threats, and a number of posts which point to simultaneous attacks.

Granted, I know of no way to combat being in a city supposedly targeted with a suitcase nuke.....BUT I do know that it makes sense to at least have a plan in place so that total chaos doesn't allow any terror strike to win.

God speed and God bless.....Just a few thoughts.

yknow guys - they probably WILL nuke us one day. And a lot of people will vanish. But we have about 300 million and the 99.8% remaining will be in no mood for "peace at any price". Even if we lost NY, DC, Chicago, and LA - we would have Dallas, St Louis, Seattle, Detroit (getting better, really), Cleveland, Pittsburg, Miami, Philadelphia... you get the idea. We are not going to lose this war. It is inevitable that the evil ba*&6ds that are bent on mass-murder for some psycho-islamic dream of Lovecraftian proportions will eventually all be dead or so distained by modern societies and free peoples everywhere that there cause will crumble from corrupted decay. No matter what they do, really, they can't win.

"Let'em pull another 9/11, and they will find that the US's original response was mild to what will happen next."

Yup.

They'd have to call out the National Guard to protect the mooselims. Heck, they'd probably have to put them in camps for their own protection.

While I would not put it in quite the way you did, I agree 100% that it is far past time for muslims in America, especially those in the enclaves, to step up and declare they are for America. Otherwise, we can only assume the opposite. I have no doubt that there are many, many individuals who either know directly, or know of someone who does know, about al qaeda individuals within CONUS. These folks need to impart that knowledge to the US government or else they are considered to be accomplices. Our security is derived from all of us, as citizens, not necessarily from the government and its agencies.

We are all Minutemen in this war.

From what I've read, one of the possible threats is their gaining control of either a passenger jet overseas or a cargo jet, and flying it here, into another building or monument. With the possibilty of them gaining control of either of these, with few passengers, if any, and then flying it here, the threat becomes real.

It's bad enough to have 9/11 as a memorable date but I would hate for Christmas or New Year's to be forever tainted with the remembrance of a terrorist attack.

Dear God, keep our homeland safe.

It would take more political will than I've ever seen, but the US should deliver a message worldwide that since the terrorist are not part of any organized State that we could punish, we will have to attack the only common thread left: Moslem Holy sites.

Only this way can ordinary, non-violent muslems be brought into the equasion. They should be told to police their own or pay the price. One of the Holy wells could serve as a demo and reminder that the big black was next.

Extreme? Yep

Effective? probably not

Vindictive? You betchum

Are our adversaries aware that another attack would unite our country against them with heretofore unseen, unbridled fury and anger?

To the contrary, it will unite the Democrat contenders into a furious denunciation of our foreign policy - see, we aren't any safer, etc, etc...

Yes, but that's not how the PEOPLE will react.

Those of us on the right are amazed at the lack of anger among the anti-war Left, and for that matter, a large part of the 67% who say they are for the war in Iraq. Another attack on our soil will cause many more to come to our side, as the conclusion will become inevitable that only KILLING THEM ALL will make us safe.

If they hit us again watch "collateral damage" and "civilian deaths" lose importance in our response, which this time will be justifiably retaliatory instead of pre-emptive.

Not only that, but the crap they spew on CNN isn't even close to reflective of how the PEOPLE of the U.S. would react. They only cover the feelings of Hillary Rodham CLinton and Albert Gore. UGH. What a bunch of crap.

when it works no one notices, when it fails, everyone wants to know where the hell it was.

That's it in a nutshell.

Perhaps the chatter itself is their act of terrorism.

Bingo! It is.

Unfortunately, chatter may not be all they are capable of. There are enough of them plotting and planning to make it almost inevitable that some of those plots and plans succeed.

I agree with you on how the people will react. I'm just not sure I can stand a new, more vicious round of rhetoric from the Left.

Same here. The recent "but it doesn't make us any safer" mantra drove me nuts.

I tend to agree with your viewpoint. I cannot travel this Christmas season because of recent surgery, and I was almost feeling glad this morning that I wouldn't be at the airport. I'm not afraid to fly -- been on a plane at least 30 time since 9/11. I'll miss my family this year, but that's the breaks. You win a few, lose a few, and some get rained out. Let's say I'm rained out this Christmas.

I'm not the worst. A blog I was reading today took it a step further by suggesting "twining" our cities with ME cities.

New York- Mecca

Washington- Medina

and so on. Hit ours, the twin becomes glass.

I kinda liked it. But then you knew I would.
