I had never heard of Deb Price until I subscribed to the Tennessean (Nashville); I have read every one of her columns in there just as I read the unfunny comics section and she never writes about anything but "gay issues," I think she is a very clever businessman.

Deb Price's column runs in the Olympian (Olympia, WA), so I have been familiar with it for quite some time. Yes, she writes about gay issues, but there are columnists who write about black issues, women's issues, and even conservative issues. That's what an editorial page is for.

Anyone here who opposes gay marriage is going to have to come up with something besides bible thumping to counter the warm-and-fuzzies that readers of this column are going to feel when reading it. There is a difference in heterosexual couples between just living together, and being married, otherwise, we wouldn't prefer the latter. There is a societal acceptance of a married couple that the unmarried just don't participate in, and gay couples are challenging society to give them that. Liberal America has long been waiting to do this, and Middle America is being courted. Lists of diseases threatening the promiscuous of all orientations are not going to overcome the appeal to Middle America's sense of justice on this.

My point is, right now, gays are making the stronger case in the media. Yes, conservatives are rallying their own troops, and pushing up the periphery of their poll numbers on the issue, but the gay side is fighting back, and Price's column is one salvo in the battle. If, indeed, gay marriage becomes the issue in next year's election, rather than national defense or the economy, then Rats and their liberal media supporters have an issue to demonize the Republicans on.
