I am glad I do not eat at McDonald's, if that is the case.

The route this cow took to the slaughter house does not put it directly under the USDA regimen for beef safety.

That is not a good thing for national chain stores if that is the case. I would think that practice would be illegal now. Beef cattle get a differnt treatment under USDA.

Killer horses and cows usually go to feed and export. Or at least that is what I have seen locally.

Years ago, we went thru a financially-strapped period. A farmer friend butchered an old cow and offered us some of the ground. Bland, w/a different texture, IIRC. A lot like McDonald's et al. It was ok in chili and spaghetti.

I will check with my wifes boss the next time I see him. He is a cattle rancher and horse trader.

Maybe he can fill me in on the chicken crap.

That is about all we have here in Arkansas. Trees and chickens.

Well that was 20 years ago when I had the farms . Rotten Ronnie's have always served dairy cows in their burgers. It's economics.

Last year when our Canadian "case" was discovered we just kept right on eating beef . Earlier in the summer , hamburger extra lean ground , (almost no fat , it's cheaper to grind everything in than pay a meat cutter to make select cuts ) was a buck a pound , I got some in the freezer, as a lost leader , for 79 cents/lb. On special last week , outside round roasts , rump , and sirloin tip roasts were $1.98 lb. T-bones are around $5.00 lb. Two and a half lb.tubes of lean ground are still $4.50-5.00 each. All Canada Grade A.

A few years ago Mc Donalds was charged with having marsupial(spelling?)or an animal with a pouch in their 100% beef burgers, the beef came from Austrailia. It was hard to keep on the grill it wanted to hop off.(kidding) It happened in L.A. I think.Anyway we do not know what we eat anymore. If some people die due to the mad cow disease a lot of lawers will get rich (I bet they are watching this like vultures)

Have you read todays paper--- Canada needs more proof about the mad cow disease before it makes any decision to protect the Canadian population from U.S. beef. How much money are our polititons getting paid by the U.S. to allow this. About the same ammount they got from the softwood lumber deal. Remember SARS, FREE TRADE, MAD COW IN ALBERTA

Ontario , but prices are likely the same there . Our exports were cut off so our domestic supply ballooned . Canada imports 8% of the US beef production , but the US imports 30% of her domestic supply from Canada. That stopped . Japan imports 34% , Canada 8% . The US domestic price will fall like a rock. No exports and someone has to eat it . Or bury it.

You might want to check the currency markets. US dollar is down again tonight.

If I were you I would buy more now-- where is Japan going to buy beef. I think our prices here in Canada will skyrocket if Japan buys from us instead of the U.S. Just like herring roe we used to buy it all the time untill Japan started now it is so expensive you cant buy it here.

I would not want to be in that position right now at all. Iowa Granny and I are in the same neck of the woods, and I know there's going to be many struggling farmers who up to this point have been keeping the farm afloat with good cattle prices and are now in the same situation. The timing could not be worse.

If I were more conspiracy minded, I would say the timing is a little too good, but I know BSE doesn't happen overnite, so it is unlikely PETA or some other nut group.

I would not put anything like this past the peta putas. But I do agree that it is in this instance unlikely, since if proved could lead in the end to murder charges.

Everybody should brace themselves for the propaganda onslaught which peta without doubt is burning the midnight oil on this minute.
