And therein lies the tale: California has a 6.5 quake and what - 5 people die? Iran has a 6.3 and 4,000 die?

Would you believe, more like 15,000 died! unbelievably tragic.

Sorry, but Anything 200 or 300 years old, doesn't qualify as ANCIENT in ANYONE'S book.

Ahhhh, the diference between an euo-peon and an American.

An American thinks 200 years is a long time.

A euro-peon thinks 200 miles is a long distance.

In fact, if I didn't know better, I'd say it looks something else is going on at the California earthquake site. There have been nearly 1000 [that's a lot, an awful lot] aftershocks and they continue. It's like a volcano is getting ready to sprout right there. A VOLCANO? Sure is rumbling.

Are you serious? My son lives in the LA area...he's visiting me presently. (tell me about your suspicions.)

since it's now climbed to 20,000 I do believe that it is something rather substantial ... allowing for media reporting unsubstantiated stat's, I agree that we should listen with caution but this apparently seems quite large as multiple sources are now reporting.
