Stamford Boy Cuts Head On Railing

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A 2-year-old model and actor is seeking unspecified lost wages and other compensation from Stamford after cutting his head at a playground.

Konrad Mader of Greenwich was running toward a treehouse at a playground Nov. 4 when he crashed into a railing, according to a claim filed last week by his mother and reported Friday by The Advocate newspaper of Stamford.

The blond-haired toddler received several stitches.

Deena Mader, the youngster's mother, does not specify how much she is seeking from the city. In a letter to officials, she demands compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering and a "lost wage amount due to his inability to audition or take modeling or commercial jobs while his head heals."

If this was Michael Jackson's kid he'd be suing for loss of consortium.

I assume his earnings go into a Trust. When he becomes of age and gets the money, then he is suppose to pay the taxes.

Earnings are taxable in the year they are earned. Assuming the kid actually made money, then, yes, he should be paying taxes.

A percentage of his income goes into trust; I do not remember the percentage. I don't know about who is allowed to manage the trust, who oversees it, and how much they can charge for those duties, either.

The mother is listed under her own name in the Greenwich phone book, no male Mader in Greenwich at all. Looks like a single mom (divorcee?) whose full time job is stage mother and is trying to game the system.

I'm sorry the kid barked his forehead at the playground, like most kids do at some time or another, but this is ridiculous. I wonder who she got to take the case? I'll ask around next week and see who'll admit to it.

It's suits like these that help bring about the nanny-state that we hate. Momma is saying she has no control or responsibility over the health and welfare of her kid and that the state should pay.

I wonder how much longer it will be before all people are sent to to dormitories for the first 21 years of their life for their own good?

Checking the name and surname I can give only my opinion that this is a sterotypical example here in Fairfield County.

I'd also put Vegas odds up that mommy and daddy are not American born citizens.

Working the system, just like a welfare queen.

It seems to me that, if this suit is dismissed on the merits, the state should be able to sue both the plaintiff and the lawyer for frivolous litigation and recover costs to the taxpayer. When, OH WHEN, will our politicians save this Republic from judicial extortion...

Now, see, I was lucky. Mom and Dad and I figured out I was nearsighted when we were driving cross-country on vacation, they pointed out a billboard to me and I could barely see it, much less read it. I didn't run into a playground railing and get clobbered upside the head. Maybe Deena needs to see about getting Konrad to an optometrist before she starts pointing fingers at the city of Greenwich. And if his eyes are okay, he should have noticed that a green-painted metal railing looks a little bit different from grass and shrubbery...and grass and shrubbery doesn't go "clang" when you run into it. Why is it the city's fault that Konrad's a clumsy little turd?

Konrad Mader of Greenwich

Mom couldn't spell, or media typo? I suspect she really named him Komrad.

Hmmmm....upon re-reading this story, it only mentions a "letter" she sent to town administrators seeking compensation. Perhaps it has not yet reached the level of a court petition. They should politely show her the door and instruct her to not allow Konrad to try to open it with his head.

You know you're not supposed to post articles from the Onion, right? This must be a story from the Onion, and a darn funny one at that.

What? It's not from the Onion? This is a real story? You're kidding me! You're not kidding? It's real?

Oh brother! This "mother" is a real piece of work, isn't she?

maybe they should sue her for neglect, since she was letting the child run at an unsafe speed.

Thanks. I do get confused by how these Trusts work.

I am not disputing your assumption that she is single. I think that too. But I did want to point out that I'm the one listed in the phone book, not my husband. So I don't think the listing is an indication.

IANAL but I believe it's very common that a claim against (all/most?) government entities must first be filed as a request for compensation. The rejection of that request is the basis for a court case on the matter.
