GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! GOOD MORNING TO OUR MILITARY and our allies!

Glad to see everyone this morning. I just have enough time to stop in and say Hi cause it took some time to catch up on my reading here at the Canteen. Haven't even gotten to the Free Republic listings yet. Today is one of my "spring cleaning" days. Have to tackle that family room where my husband resides most of the time. You know, dust where he misses, clean under stuff, and then shampoo the rug.

We have been having a somewhat lazy holiday break. We spent Christmas day on the road, but Friday and Saturday we did practically nothing; he gamed and I've been doing some reading. Sunday we went with friends to see Return of the King, again. So, now my husband is back to work and I must get some "spring cleaning" done before I go back to work next Monday.

Now once I get caught up on that, I can get back to the Canteen.So, I will be in and out all day today cause I love reading about the pirates! I like Pirates of the Caribbean. Cute movie!

I want to wish everyone a Happy and prosperous New Year!

Greetings, Canteeners, Troops,
and All the Ships at Sea!

ARR! Now THIS looks to be a grand way to ring in th' New Year, me buckos! Fittin' out the good ship "CANTEEN" wi' a right will, and ready to sail against all flags for fortune and plunder, sez I!

But waitaminit. Let us see, just what manner of scalawags we have here, aye, cheery messmates all!

Look'ee, I see here Hijinx, fresh from a-mixin' up some bootleg whiskey fer the crew's rum ration:

An' right here, sweet Radu at the helm...

Quick, someone get a decent meal in th' lass!

Now, Lads, didn' I tell yez all, there'd be maids an' lasses a-plenty for the spoils?

Now, lads, properly warned, ye be, sez I, that danger lurks behind every corner, an' yer cutlasses best be ready at hand. I've been at practice, so I'm ready to cross sabres wi' thee:

But still, as a matter o' course, there always be time to romance thy ladylove on the ramparts, see if there ain't:

Now, here be a chance to test yer mettle agains' the pirates of the silver screen, if'n it be yer will. Try this simple test here:

http://quizilla.com/users/Aeruthiel/quizzes/Pirates%20of%20the%20Caribbean%20-%20Which%20character%20are%20you%3F/

An' wi' that last shot o' me locker, I'll be sayin' goo day to all here, until we sail wi' th' tide, tonight!

Service call of the month from a Baltimore Gas & Electric residential customer. BGE received a call from a customer saying: "My power is out. When you come to fix it be sure to bring a truck with a tall enough bucket to remove the deer."

The customer service rep prudently trying to gather helpful information to help diagnose the problem asked, "What deer"?

The customer replied "There is a deer on top of one of the electric poles on Wilkes Rd about 1/2 mile west of perimeter Rd."

The customer service rep tried desperately to pull herself together and not laugh in front of the customer and replied" We will dispatch someone right away to investigate the power outage. Thank you for the call."

Upon completion of the call, the customer service rep proceeded to share the funny story with her coworkers in the office and they all had a good laugh.

Well, low and behold, the serviceman who repaired the problem stopped by the customer service office the following day with these pictures.

Sure enough, the deer had been hit by a train & landed on top of a distribution feeder pole! Unbelievable!!!!!

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION

The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are,God is,
And all is well.
Amen.

Bless This House

Bless this house O Lord we pray;
Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout,
Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall,
Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove
ever open to joy and love.

Bless these windows shining bright,
Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there,
with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within,
keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be
Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we
May dwell O Lord with thee.

Today's Medal of Honor Recipients

*BAUGH, WILLIAM B.

Rank and organization: Private First Class, U.S. Marine Corps, Company G, 3d Battalion, 1st Marine, 1st Marine Division (Rein.).
Place and date: Along road from Koto-ri to Hagaru-ri, Korea, 29 November 1950.
Entered service at: Harrison, Ohio.
Born: 7 July 1930, McKinney, Ky.
Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a member of an antitank assault squad attached to Company G, during a nighttime enemy attack against a motorized column.

Acting instantly when a hostile hand grenade landed in his truck as he and his squad prepared to alight and assist in the repulse of an enemy force delivering intense automatic-weapons and grenade fire from deeply entrenched and well-concealed roadside positions, Pfc. Baugh quickly shouted a warning to the other men in the vehicle and, unmindful of his personal safety, hurled himself upon the deadly missile, thereby saving his comrades from serious injury or possible death. Sustaining severe wounds from which he died a short time afterward, Pfc. Baugh, by his superb courage and valiant spirit of self-sacrifice, upheld the highest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.

*BARKER, CHARLES H.

Rank and organization: Private First Class (then Pvt.), U.S. Army, Company K, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division.
Place and date: Near Sokkogae, Korea, 4 June 1953.
Entered service at: Pickens County, S.C.
Born: 12 April 1935, Pickens County, S.C.
G.O. No.: 37, 7 June 1955.
Citation: Pfc. Barker, a member of Company K, distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry and indomitable courage above and beyond the call of duty in action against the enemy.

While participating in a combat patrol engaged in screening an approach to "Pork-Chop Outpost," Pfc. Barker and his companions surprised and engaged an enemy group digging emplacements on the slope. Totally unprepared, the hostile troops sought cover. After ordering Pfc. Barker and a comrade to lay down a base of fire, the patrol leader maneuvered the remainder of the platoon to a vantage point on higher ground. Pfc. Barker moved to an open area firing his rifle and hurling grenades on the hostile positions. As enemy action increased in volume and intensity, mortar bursts fell on friendly positions, ammunition was in critical supply, and the platoon was ordered to withdraw into a perimeter defense preparatory to moving back to the outpost. Voluntarily electing to cover the retrograde movement, he gallantly maintained a defense and was last seen in close hand-to-hand combat with the enemy. Pfc. Barker's unflinching courage, consummate devotion to duty, and supreme sacrifice enabled the patrol to complete the mission and effect an orderly withdrawal to friendly lines, reflecting lasting glory upon himself and upholding the highest traditions of the military service.

"If there be any glory in war, let it rest on the shoulders of men like these." -- Audie Murphy

Thank you to all the military at home and abroad keeping our world safe! God bless you all!
