Two of my favorite pirates:
Captain Feathersword
The Legacy of Dread Pirate Roberts written by William Goldman Westley: Well, one thing I will say; the fire swamp certainly does keep you on your toes. This will all soon be but a happy memory. Robert's ship Revenge is banked at the far end. And as you know I am Roberts.
Buttercup: But how's that possible, since he's been marauding 20 years and you only left me 5 years ago?
Westley: I myself am often surprised at life's little quirks. See, what I told you before about saying please was true...it intrigued Roberts, as did my descriptions of your beauty. Finally, Roberts decided something. He said, 'Alright Westley, I've never had a valet, you can try if you'd like. I'm most likely to kill you in the morning.' For three years said that. 'Goodnight Westley, good work, sleep well, I'm most likely to kill you in the morning.' It was a fine time for me - I was learning to fence, fight, anything anyone would teach me. Roberts and I eventually became friends. And then it happened.
Buttercup: What? Go on.
Westley: Well Roberts had grown so rich, he wanted to retire. He took me to his cabin and told me his secret. 'I am not the Dread Pirate Roberts,' he said, 'my name is Ryan. I inherited this ship from the previous Dread Pirate Roberts, just as you will inherit it from me. The man I inherited it from was not the real Dread Pirate Roberts either - his name was Cumberbun. The real Roberts had been retired 15 years and was living like a king in Patagonia. Then he explained the name was the important for inspiring the necessary fear. You see, no one would surrender to the Dread Pirate Westley. So we sailed ashore, took on an entirely new crew and he stayed aboard for awhile as first mate, all the time calling me Roberts. Once the crew believed, he left the ship and I have been Roberts ever since. Except now that were together, I shall retire and hand the name over to someone else. Is everything clear to you?

The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything Lyrics
From A Very Silly Sing-Along Narrator: "Joining Larry are Pa Grape and Mr. Lunt, who together make up the infamous gang of scalliwags, the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything!"
Larry, Pa, Mr. Lunt: "We are the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything! We just stay home and lie around. And if you ask us to do anything, we'll just tell you ..." Larry: "We don't do anything!"
Pa: "Well, I've never been Greenland and I've never been to Denver, and I've never buried treasure in St. Louis or St. Paul, and I've never been to Moscow and I've never been to Tampa, and I've never been to Boston in the fall."
All: "'Cuz we're the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything! We just stay home and lie around. And if you ask us to do anything, we'll just tell you .."
Mr. Lunt: "We don't do anything. And I never hoist the mainstay and I never swab the poop deck, and I never veer to starboard 'cuz I never sail at all, and I've never walked the gang plank and I've never owned a parrot, and I've never been to Boston in the fall."
All: "'Cuz we're the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything! We just stay at home and lie around. And if you ask us to do anything, we'll just tell you .. We don't do anything!"
Larry: "Well, I've never plucked a rooster and I'm not too good at ping-pong, and I've never thrown my mashed potatoes up against the wall, and I've never kissed a chipmunk and I've never gotten head lice, and I've never been to Boston in the fall!"
Pa: "Huh? What are you talking about? What's a rooster and mashed potatoes have to do with being a pirate??"
Mr. Lunt: "Hey, that's right! We're supposed to sing about pirate-y things!"
Larry: "Oh ..."
Pa: "And who ever kissed a chipmunk? That's just nonsense! Why even bring it up? Am I right? What do you think?"
Mr. Lunt: "I think you look like Cap'n Crunch!"
Pa: "Huh? No I don't!"
Mr. Lunt: "Do too."
Pa: "Do not!"
Mr. Lunt: "You're making me hungry."
Pa: "That's it, you're walkin' the plank!"
Mr. Lunt: "Says who?"
Pa: "Says the captain, that's who!"
Mr. Lunt: "Oh, yeah? Aye aye, Cap'n Crunch!"
Larry: "And I've never licked a spark plug and I've never sniffed a stink bug, and I've never painted daisies on a big red rubber ball, and I've never bathed in yogurt and I don't look good in leggings ..."
Pa: "You just don't get it!"
All: "And we've never been to Boston in the fall!"

My artist friend Dolf (of alienhelpdesk.com fame) created a place for us that, until now, I wasn't sure when we should visit it. I guess Pirate Day seems like a good time to sail for the
wOOhOO Islands!
NY Eve party starts on the "w" and proceeds from there! (Who's going to be our designated driver?) ;)

My all time favorite pirate song...
A Pirate Looks at 40 By: Jimmy Buffett
1974
Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you switch from sails to steam
And in your belly you hold the treasures few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late
I've done a bit of smugglin', I've run my share of grass
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last, never meant to last
And I have been drunk now for over two weeks
I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks
But I got stop wishin', got to go fishin' Down to rock bottom again
Just a few friends, just a few friends
(instrumental)
I go for younger women, lived with several awhile
Though I ran 'em away, they'd come back one day Still could manage to smile
Just takes a while, just takes a while
Mother, mother ocean, after all the years I've found
My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown
Coda: I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown

I laughed out loud reading those lyrics.
I love the "Veggie Tales"!!! (I wonder if their creator got his business mess straightened out? I hope so!)

Star,
Did anyone answer yesterday's question about getting making morale calls? Officially, the USAF let us make two 10-minute long distance morale calls per week (when I was at Prince Sultan Air Base), but only one 10-minute long distance per week when I was at Dhahran and Kuwait. The long distance morale call was to any post and the operator would go ahead and put through a free long distance call. They would try to find a local base when you tell them the area code (none for me, unfortunately), otherwise I had to use a prepaid phone card. I would call a base at least on the same time zone, and have them connect me to the 1-800 number on the calling card, and then use the card. That way I could talk for more than 10 minutes (morale call limit). Hope it helps, but all I could really do was ask the operator for the nearest installation based on the area code of the phone number.
