I heard a quick news break on this, only caught the flight number... I looked it up at British Air's site and was surprised to see this is a flight leaving the US.

Would this be the same actual aircraft that was detained at Dulles last night? Perhaps still concerned about something hidden on board?

I have to wonder if someone slipped through on a flight, but his compatriots didn't get through, and now he wants to go home.

Another one? Or the one that was detained this morning? Color me confused.

Or perhaps the flight back to UK corresponding with the one from the UK cancelled earlier (i.e. no airplane here in U.S. to use)?

I think the one earlier today was coming from England to Dulles. This one is leaving Dulles to England.
But I'm rather confused as well. Wish the media would connect the dots and write ONE article detailing all the flights and concerns. But that would take too much work for the presstitutes.

what is going on with this stuff? now someone is going BACK? or, is it the same plane from last night, are they holding the aircraft for some reason, and therefore had to cancel this?

I'm thinking this is the same airplane as cancelled from UK to US, so now there is no airplane here to make the return flight, so obviously cancelled - not for security, but for lack of an aircraft.

After 2 different incidents of stow-aways in wheelwells (both dead), it does make one wonder how many other persons might have used that technique successfully. Too, how easy would it really be for a terrorist to attach explosive, etc., to the wheelwell.
People--who should not be allowed to--are gaining unauthorized access to airplanes, still!!!!

I was thinking the same thing.
But flightview.com shows a BA flight 222 that left Dulles at 02:49AM on 1/1/04 landing at Heathrow at 01:50PM, and a second flight 222 scheduled to leave Dulles at 09:40PM on 1/1/04. Two flight 222s on the same day?
To: oceanview
It's not terribly clear to me. One thing, I'm very glad I'm not flying anywhere right now.

I'm thinking this is the same airplane as cancelled from UK to US, so now there is no airplane here to make the return flight, so obviously cancelled - not for security, but for lack of an aircraft. Your explanation is certainly the most benign explanation. I'd hope if that was the case they'd simply state that as the reason rather than let all of us speculate on more sinister explanations.
To: oceanview
223 (from UK to US) was detained at Dulles last night. 223 (from UK to US) was cancelled today for security reasons. 222 was probably the US to UK return of that same aircraft, which is still in UK due to cancellation, so no plane here. Thus, no flight.

In the book The New Jackals about Ramzi Yousef and Osama Bin Laden, the FBI said that Youself, now in US custody for his role in the first WTC bombing, was the most sophisticated bomber they had ever come up against in their investigations of over 72,000 bombs.
He could take down a plane using chemicals in a contact lens case and a wristwatch.
He also trained Terry Nichols in the Phillipines in the weeks prior to the Oklahoma City bombing. Nearly all the FBI agents believed that, but didn't persue it because Clinton was too busy blaming Rush Limbaugh and white extremists.

A flight 222 at 2:49 am could simply be a much delayed flight from last night, esp. if 9:40 pm is the normal time for such a flight.
So 2 in the same day would be one delayed and one normal.

You'd think there would be spare aircraft for such contingencies (what if there's a mechanical problem? Flight canceled until a replacement plane can fly over from the UK?)

It was the best book yet into the terrorist mindset. Also the most meticulously researched.
If Yousef could take down a plane with such benign items, we're really up against it in terms of flying safely.

What a great media system we have! Anything implicating conservatives is left in, and anything exhonorating them is left out!

These are a few FR links if you want to read about this matter.
There are members of Congress who want the OKC bombing re-opened.
There are members of Congress who want the first WTC bombing re-opened.
Both have links to Iraq and there are FBI agents who believe to this day that the FBI was involved.
Also, the judge in the federal case against Terry Nichols admonished the government for being less than forthcoming about John Doe #2 and other matters regarding international terrorism.
Laurie Mylroi believes in an international terrorism link behind the OKC bombing as well. So does the Wall Street Journal (I have a link somewhere on my hard drive). These aren't nut jobs who believe this, and the evidence is compelling.

If this is the same plane as last night, maybe the intell was that the return flight out of Dulles which would be used for terrorism since it would be filled with fuel.

The book The New Jackals, written in 1999, is a must read for those interested in this matter. The author is apolitical (at least in the book) and discusses how very difficult this kind of terrorism is to fight.
There are other little tidbits in there you will find fascinating, but I don't want to ruin the book for you. Suffice to say that OBL's liver problems are discussed and you will understand why he hasn't looked as healthy in recent years.
