Joe Wilson Details His Affair with CIA Wife

He says the Bush administration violated his wife's privacy by revealing that she worked for the CIA.

But now Spygate accuser Joseph Wilson is sharing with reporters intimate details about his relationship with the allegedly secretive Valerie Plame, offering an account of the couple's "heavy make-out" session just before she told him she worked for the CIA.

Wilson, who said recently he would have sacrificed anything to guard his wife's privacy, offers the steamy details in the Jan. 2004 issue of Vanity Fair magazine.

The move has even supporters wondering if he's blown his credibility as a White House whistleblower just as the Justice Department rachets up the investigation into his claims.

Based on Wilson's recollections, Vanity Fair reports:

"Meeting in Paris, London and Brussels, [the relationship between Plame and Wilson] got very serious, very quickly. On the third or fourth date, he says, they were in the middle of a 'heavy make-out' session when she said she had something to tell him."

Wilson said that at that point his date interrupted their steamy tryst and decided to come clean. "She was, she explained, undercover in the CIA."

"It did nothing to dampen my ardour," he told VF. "My only question was: Is your name really Valerie?"

Wilson's decision to go public with details from his wife's sex life prompted dismay at the Washington Post, where editors have been trying to sell his complaint that the Bush White House blew his wife's cover as a serious national security scandal.

"Capitol Hill aides in both parties said Wilson had badly hurt his credibility with his apparently enthusiastic participation in a spread in the January issue of Vanity Fair," the Post complained last month.

"The article includes Wilson's steamy account of his early romance with Plame," the paper noted. "Congressional aides said the article bolstered the contention of Wilson's critics that no one had done more than him to draw attention to Plame, and that the couple had eagerly contributed to their celebrity."

Mr. Wilson himself seemed unfazed by the apparent conflict, telling the Post that his only complaint was that his wife "had to be clothed as generic blonde" in Vanity Fair photos to protect her identify.

Despite volunteering his wife for a new round of publicity, Wilson's allegation that her privacy had been violated is still being taken seriously at the Justice Department, which appointed a special prosecutor to review the case last week.

I am glad I spotted your reply. Here is my question to you and to all other Freepers. I have heard from the media that it is against the law to knowingly tell anyone that someone is a CIA agent. Now, that seems to cover second and third parties. But what about the agent themselves? Are they allowed to tell that they are a agent? Does that break the law.

True story:

I was at a grandsons soccer game when one of the parents of a kid on his team informs not only me, but my wife, that he works for the CIA and has done work in Afghanistan. Not only that, but the grandsons parents knew he was CIA before we did. For all I knew at the time, every parent from the team knew this. Now, this guy is either blowing smoke or is telling the truth. If telling the truth, where does this fall into regarding the law?

First, she tells a guy she scarcely knows that she's working "undercover" for the CIA.

During this make-out session Wilson was married to "Jacqueline" who as far as I can figure out in the Vanity Fair article, is or was a French diplomat.

I have no idea what the exact laws are and/or who can say they work at the CIA and who can't.

It's just been my experience in the last two years that I have tried everything, up to and including asking point blank, and I never get a response. I'm not dumb enough to keep pushing it to put them into an awkward situation.

It's one of those situations where they know I'm pretty knowledgeable about who does what in the government, so we kind of dance around it. I do, however, get the impression that people who work in classified areas of the CIA don't go around telling it -- especially at places like soccer games. I'm positive that if they were in a position to tell me and were allowed to tell me, they would.

Okay, I've asked this question on other threads but haven't gotten an answer. Why is the JD not bringing charges against the wife? I've had security clearances from CONFIDENTIAL to TS and DOE "Q" my entire career. Even if Wilson had a TS clearance as he claimed, he still had no need to know about her position. She likewise had no requirement or responsibility to tell him. Especially while horizontal on the third date. I can't imagine she was not bound by some type of non-disclosure agreement that she blantantly ignored. Is it just me or does it seem that they both have some sort of "Alias" fantasy going here? If they were married and she told him I would have less of a problem than telling a complete stranger that the CIA did not have time to do a background check on. My take.

I picked up a Dec. copy of Vanity Fair while in a check-out line and thumbed through, looking for the photo spread. Now, I'll have to look at the Jan. issue, too? Blech. That magazine is certainly not something I want in my house.

Wilson was on the National Security staff and had clearance at the time Ms. Plame revealed herself, so to speak. I just don't get this Wilson dude, however. He put his wife and years of contacts of hers in jeopardy by going public with his political agenda. Is he so stupid that he would think no one would go after him and his family when he went to the NY Times with his criticism? I mean, he has been in DC for over 20 years. We just got over the Clinton impeachment for lying under oath about a sexual relationship, and this Wilson dude thinks reporters will not question who he is and what the heck he was doing going to Niger????? His wife had to warn him about going public. (hopefully) And yet he went public anyway. I wonder if the reason he is being so public now is because he thinks he is protecting her, shining light on her existence in order that she not undergo Arkancide. Anybody else think this is possible? For instance, I have pondered whether Monica was spared because of all the evidence that Linda Tripp had on tape. Regardless, Wilson is a creep.

Not me. The more Wilson opens his mouth, the worse he looks, and the more discredit he heaps on his own sorry head.

You'll no doubt recall that the "big story" of his peace mission was quickly deep-sixed once it became clear he was a moron on a fool's errand -- something to the effect of, "I drank sweet tea all day and talked to people in my hotel room. They promised that there was no yellow-cake."

If Wilson's story is true, then it would appear that Valerie Plame has to do a bit of 'splainin' of her own, to the nice folks at the FBI.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that the enterprising (if overtalkative) Ms. Plame is even now arranging for a hit man to tell dear old Joe to STFU.
