No doubt, and they're still trying to say that Saddam's capture isn't nearly the big deal that people are making it out to be. The skiffy media is still talking about "casualties mounting", "large numbers of insurgents", and peace being impossible.

Instead, the war was over in three weeks flat, and Hertoghe says that French readers still can't understand why.

So, we get to the crux of the matter. The French are just steamed that Saddam held out against us a full week longer than they, the French, held out against Germany in 1940.

Nowadays, seven little old ladies with sticks could hold out longer than France against a German invasion.

I had a Swede SCREAMING at me that I "just didn't get it!" as he contended that the whole rest of the world was against the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

To which, the proper response was "So?"....

I've quit caring what the French think or what happens to them. As far as I'm concerned France can become the first Islamic country in the EU. Then maybe they'd be a worthy adversary for the coming Fourth Reich, instead of the Gallic punching bag they've always been.

In all seriousness, France has a great military tradition from Tours in 732 to Desert Fun One in 1991. They were instrumental in the American victory in the our Revolution, especially at Yorktown. Napoleon's destiny was Elba but his battlefield victories remain. They captured Moscow! France defeated Germany in World War One but losing a generation of men weakens a country just as it did the South after the 1861-65 war and it did Germany in the 1939-45 war. I find Parisians a bit less snotty than American big city folks. I love traveling in France. The French have some bad leadership but they also have the Charles Martel Club and none of their sorry-assed chief executives have been worse than Bill Clinton. Remember Clinton? Americans elected that classless scum not once but twice. What France needs now is a revival and growing Protestant Churches.

What is arrogance ?

1-France which said to US that 80% of planet do not agree with them ?
2-US which imposes on 80% of planet their point of view ?

1 and 2 of course !

"...I'm not sure I understand what you are saying..."
Please excuse me for my average translation...

"...US does what is in it's best interest, or what it thinks is in it's best interest..."
Of course, i'm agree with you and i understand US for that. But, interest of US is not interest ot the world !
So why US does not invade North Korea to protect US against an nuclear attack ? Not oil in North Korea, so not very interesting for US. And the great chinese brother is a danger for US....

"...France is a has been and is trying to achieve former glory by bullying itself to the front of the EU..."
Yes, it is true. But is it a crime to said to US, that we are not agree with you ?
Where are the massive attack weapons of Iraq today ?
Most of European think, that the US military controlled of Iraq, is not for the free of Iraqi, but for their oil !

"...80% of the world is jealous of the US..."
(laugh)Are you so arrogant to think that 80% of planet is jealous of US ?!
No, 80% fear that the US ones put fire at the powders and cause the 3 world war.

"...France is nothing..."
Those words are not arrogant ?

The assertion that 80% of the planet had an informed opinion on the matter is ridiculous. Additionally, some 80% of the planet has governments not worthy of any sort of moral respect from a democratic nation.

As to the other comment, disagreeing is "imposing their will"? Especially when you consider that the only major disagreement was as to whether or not to follow through in the manner already approved in response to acknowledged violations?

Russia and France were among those who opposed the war because of economics/oil. France also opposed the war because they wished to be contrary, and be hailed as the leadership of contrariness.

Furthermore: France was merely being feckless in regards their accusations of "unilateral actions". They have no compuctions whatsoever about "unilateral action". They merely oppose others doing it. This is petty, not principled, and deserves to be ignored if not outright ridiculed.

France would have been overrun in WWI had not the Anglo-Saxons provided the forces to maintain their front. Foch was a good CINC, but the French had been bled dry by the spring of 1917.

Oil in N.Korea is irrelevant. China does make a bit of a difference - it affects practicality. A difference between Iraq and North Korea is that Korea is ammenable via diplomacy, while Iraq showed repeatedly that it only responded through direct threat - or use - of force. Even Blix recognized this. Blix provided every evidence that Iraq only cooperated when military pressure from the U.S., and that Iraq was in fact in "material breach" of its obligations (which it had agreed to in exchange for being allowed to remain as a government). Blix simply didn't want to face up to being the INDIVIDUAL responsible for giving the go-ahead for a war.

France did not simply dissent. France undermined the U.S., not because of what it was doing, but because it might succeed (in a very general way). France didn't simply oppose what the U.S. was doing (heck, they even repeatedly voted in favor of it in the U.N.) - France opposed the U.S. The last straw was when it came out that France wasn't looking for a compromise on Iraq - but rather that it came to the point where they were simply going to oppose anything the U.S. did that made it look like a success.

Is it arrogance to be contemptuous of one who has begged for it? Russia opposed the invasion of Iraq, but they at least had major economic issues in play.

Might I also add that Frances fecklessness made the war pretty much inevitable by convincing Hussein that he could continue to thumb his nose at his own ceasefire agreements - and had the U.S. not enforced the U.N. provisions, the U.N. would fall to utter irrelevance for actual bad-guys of any power whatsoever.

"As soon as there were a couple of wounded, of dead, they [the frog media] were talking about Vietnam, Stalingrad,"

Stalingrad? ...lol......How many died in Stalingrad, about a million? .....or was it a million on each side? Frogs compare favorably to Arabs in their unfathomable states of denial. These are the last shrill grumblings of a dying nation. .....and good riddance.
