January 3, 2004 -- BAGHDAD - GIs raided a mosque in Baghdad, seizing a large cache of explosives, as enemy fire in central Iraq brought down a U.S. helicopter and killed the pilot. Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, a U.S. military spokesman, said yesterday troops had conducted the Thursday operation at al-Tabool mosque after a tip from Iraqis and netted a wide array of weaponry to be used against U.S. forces.

I just saw a CNN Headline News report say the US troops went in and tore up their Korans and looked for weapons... the US denies ripping up korans......

Then I switched to Fox News for their hourly update and found that they found machine guns and an anti-aircraft missile... now why would CNN leave out that??

I suggested an in-place EOD exercise with the found items, in the press release thread on this.

This is a very interesting development. I bet there's some serious pucker factor among those with arsenals in mosques, who thought they were safe using them as a hiding place.
