dude... Arch Enemy is one of my favorite bands! Mike Amott kicks ass! You should check out his side project Spiritual Beggars, a Swedish hard rock group. OMG they rock so hard.

FYI there is lots of great death metal coming out of Sweden, Finland, and Norway. That is, if you like death metal.

We all went crazy when we realized the lead singer was female. I did not hear of the band up until that time. We were impressed!!!!

The White Stripes suck big time, I saw them a few years ago before they got really huge. I remember thinking that whoever this guy was, he could sure play some awesome slide blues, but that girl on drums sucks and they needed a bass player BAD. I had no idea that they'd go on to sell out arenas and get all this heavy air-time. UGH!

Detroit and Ann Arbor are meccas, though. One of my favorite bands is Sonic's Rendezvous Band, made of members from MC5 and the Stooges, with Rationals' Scott Morgan on guitar. Scott Morgan is a badass and his new band Powertrane is supposedly pretty good. Swedish rockers The Hellacopters are pretty much my favorite band, and they recorded a bunch of Sonic's Rendezvous songs in addition to going on tour with Scott Morgan. Morgan formed a band called The Hydromatics with a couple of guys from The Nitwitz (Amsterdam) and they put out a really good record from what I heard.

Ann Arbor related garage rock needs it's own thread!

Metallica is among a handful of acts that refuse to sell their songs a la carte over the Web. John Mayer, Linkin Park and the Beastie Boys are also bucking the 99-cent song trend by only allowing their complete albums to be downloaded for $9.99.

In their next careers, they will (attempt to) insist that the customer listen to the entire "Would you like Idaho-grown, cooked in 75% polyunsaturated vegetarian fat at 375 degrees for three minutes, fries?" speech before accepting a reply.

400 years from now, we'll still be listening to Bach. Will people be listening to Britney Spears 400 years from now? You've got to be kidding.

Reminds me of one particularly funny Futurama gag. Frey was sitting in his room, depressed, listening to 20th century rap "music". Leela walked in and told him he shouldn't spend all his time "sitting around listening to classical music".

I'll never forget glancing at a Roger Ebert book and seeing that he gave 'Barb Wire' (starring Pamela Anderson) a higher rating than 'Brazil'.

I remember MST3K doing the movie "Laserblast". One of the recurring riffs was commentary on Leonard Maltin (IIRC) giving this dreadful waste of film 2 1/2 stars (e.g. after a particuarly bad SFX sequence, "That's what cost it that third star").

Sorry for the late response...but I'm in total agreement about Metallica and especially Slayer. They're my favorite thrash band (I've seen them 10 times). I won't get in the mosh pit anymore...getting too old to keep up with the kids. A conservative Slayer fan...I thought I was the only one!

No way, Slayer to me represents good old fashion values, in the heavy metal sense. They kept true to their principles, never sold out for the money, and work very hard for their fans. Metallica, geez, I can't even listen to Master of Puppets or AJFA without cringing of what they have become! And yes, I am conservative. Don't laugh, I went to a Slayer concert and the average age was probably near 30.

The last few times I went to Slayer the mosh pit was insane...high elbows, fists, the whole shot. Not the way I used to mosh. They do kick major ass...and they've changed without selling out. The last Metallicrap album I bought was AJFA. It is a bummer when you listen to their old stuff and think of how good they were! My only beef with Slayer is that you have to wait 3 years for each new album!
