I know, it shows just how stupid Americans are. "Nazi" is short for "Nationalzocialist" according to Webster's 9th edition.

The core ideals held close by those painting Bush as a Nazi are closer to their ideology than to American right wing politicians.

This is an issue which deserves to be ignored, for it's beyond the third grade and the public is clueless.

And yes, Hitler was a pure socialist. Government run industry. Government industrial controls on manufacturing and distribution. A society of which the means of production are owned by the state.

You may have some other definition derived from public skools but you were misled. Again, my source is Webster's Ninth Dictionary.

Of course what was produced most were weapons, so you could say that it was the government who funded a great part of the industry - but you could also say that in a lesser part about every country, e.g. the US.

Silly me. The closer the publishing date is to the actual era, the more incorrect I seem to become.

I do get your point on Socialism ala' Hitler style, but we use language to define terms, we do not take an event and mold language around it to make it fit.

My daughter questioned me on just this when she had to explain the difference between fascism, socialism, communism, and capitalism for school. She had about ten reference books which none of which supported each others definitions. We pulled out my grandfathers books and used them with the logic that the text was closer to the period being studied.

Terms and meanings seem to morph too.

By regularly comparing George W. Bush to Adolf Hitler, the Dumbocrats have again shown it is THEY who are the Haters/stirrers of discontent, and their feeble attempt to draw a correlation between the 2 of them is beyond the pale and utterly ridiculous.Where-as Billy Jeff actually committed offenses against America George W. is defending America's security (with the exception of the mexican border of course, but I digress) and allowing the Military to kill Islamic Jihadis who want to kill us! And they had the audacity to call Republicans 'Partisan' and 'Evil' for the 8 years of Bill Clintons Treacherous Reign. Every American of Voting age should be forced to view this ad.

True. Yet there really is an accurate term for "Socialism ala' Hitler": fascism.

Oh yeah, especially to find the differences between socialism and communism is mind-boggling when you try to sort them out in comparing so-called "socialist" and "communist" countries to each other. It get's even more funny when you get to the theories: marxism, maoism, marxism-leninism, trotzkism and then there are anarcho-syndicalists. MS Encarta has quite a good article about communism, though.
Fascism is a bit easier: The name's from "fasci", the Party that was led by the "Duce" Mussolini, an Italian version of Hitler.

Huh, be careful with that. If I was reading my grandfathers books from 1943 to learn more about the 2nd World War then I would know that Germany was having victories all over the place - when in fact they were losing. That doesn't mean that newer literature has everything right, though...

I don't answer my children as a rule. Answering them is of no use to anyone. It's quite exciting when they develop different takes on stuff. "Slaughterhouse Five" is one of those works she bloomed with. I just get a bit tired of "And so it goes"
