A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos) 1.5.04

Pres. Bush traveled to St. Louis to promote his "No Child Left Behind" education law. Pres. Bush spoke at the Pierre Laclede Elementary School, which he said in his Saturday radio address had risen "to meet our new standards."

Pres. Bush also visited with about 50 fourth-graders. One asked Pres. Bush if he had wanted to be president when he was a child.

"No," Bush told the children, all nearly a decade shy of voting age. "It can be pretty hard." Still, he called his job "a very rewarding experience" and took credit for "a world that's more peaceful, (where) more kids are learning to read."

He also appeared at his first campaign fund-raiser of the year, adding to a record total of more than $110 million in contributions for a primary race in which he has no Republican opponent. Pres. Bush now has $120 Million in his campaign bank account.

On Thursday, the second anniversary of the signing of the No Child Left Behind Act, Pres. Bush will hold a similar event at West View Elementary School in Knoxville, Tenn. Both events are paired with re-election campaign fund-raisers.

I also went to one of her workshops. But she wasn't amoung the origianl Ball State/European group. She's also one of the authors to one of the elementary music text books.

I was on the state committee that wrote one of our first curriculum and past president of the state general music group, so many of the "experts" brains got picked at one time or another. But I'm horrible with names, dates etc.

Exactly, and as I said on the other thread, your analogy of food on the table is excellent.

I believe that the Bush adminstration's getting tough on the employers of illegals will be more effective in the long run than swatting flies, as it were.

The President has always done more than what the Bush hating crowd will ever admit. They will always try and find one little flaw and then scream "Chicken Little".

Ditto on the fingerprinting. I don't know exactly to what degree the borders where tightened after 9/11, but I think they could probably be a bit more secure. Especially up around Canada. One of my roommates is from the New England area and says it's a breeze getting in and out of Canada. I don't know how easy it is getting in if you're not American, though.

Well, stick around during the next 15 weeks, OK?

I'm teaching a class on integrating music into the elementary classroom (for non-majors), and I might like to pick your brain now and again, if you wouldn't mind.....

I think that immigration and securing the borders is one of the thorniest post 9/11 problems for President Bush to deal with.

We ARE an open society, and a nation of immigrants, so finding the right balance between security and freedom is a very real challenge.

It's not as black and white as guys like O'Reilly and others want it to be.

I'm just thankful that we have a President who is thoughtfully and prayerfully dealing with a very difficult problem, and I think we all need to keep praying for him about this subject, as well as all others.

Thanks so much for finding this! Quite different than it was presented by the Dems. I think it's interesting that no one in the immigration policy community was included in the discussions--that should stop talk that Bush does what he does just to get votes.

Thanks again!

I read the article in question, and I find it appalling that the one person who they quote high up is someone from La Raza! Talk about showing your socialist slant quite early!

Honestly, I am torn on the issue concerning illegal immigration. On one hand, I do not think that for one moment we should reward people who break the law, by utilizing prescious resources without paying into the system, and do not wish to integrate into American society.
On the other hand, the compassionate conservative in me wants those people who are willing to jump through the hoops to remain here, and reward them for trying to integrate into this society.

I understand that the issue of discretion comes into play, but as we speak, who can make the decision of who is allowed to stay (discretion) and who is deported (enforcement)?

The people are going to have hard choices to make, and someone is going to be quite unhappy and sue for it. I bet on this only.

I agree with you.

A great majority of us wouldn't be here if the US wasn't open to immigration.
