It is up to us to find a way to make them a legal part of the system.

Gotta disagree with you on this one. We already have a system in place to make them legal. It's up to them to exercise it. Otherwise - they're breakin' the law.

"How quick we forget that immigration is what made America who she is and always will be the source of her foundation tomorrow."

The correct term is "legal immigration". That was the source. Restricted, planned legal immigration. Please get your facts straight or be prepared to meet the almighty zot.

"Legal or illegal, people will come to America because they have a dream of being free. It is up to us to find a way to make them a legal part of the system. Most important thing is that they become a participant in the system and the economy...work, pay taxes, and elect representation."

Let's factualize this sentence for our audience:

"Legal people will come to America because they have a dream of being free.

It is up to us to find a way to extradite them to the nearest border as part of the constitutional legal system.

Most important thing is that the legal immigrants become a participant in the system and the economy...work, pay taxes, and elect representation."

There. That didn't hurt did it? Facts never hurt anyone.

I have no problem with immigration. I have a problem with illegal immigration.

My ancestors didn't have any welfare. No SSI ponzi scheme. They worked their butts off. One side of my family became self made millionaires until the depression.

I have a big problem with amnesty for two reasons.
1. Encourages illegal immigration while decreases LEGAL immigration.
2. It's a slap in the face in all the immigrants that came here legally.

respect for our laws ought to be a minimum requirement for any immigrant. That eliminates illegals, who are the scum of an already corrupt society. We don't want a bunch of scofflaws.

Nobody is losing the mission statement. We still WANT immigrants

Some of us do, some don't. I think legal immigration is great and wonderful and fine. Others -- including many FReepers -- think it's an evil menace destroying our society. I agree with backslidendemocrat that those people are essentially unAmerican.

So, what you're saying is that the certain owner of a golf course in Saugatuck, Michigan is going to suddenly start taking out taxes and social security while at the same time offering a comprehensive benefits package to the dozen or so illegals he has working for him.>>>>>>>>

My same thoughts (if it's been addressed I missed it.) Any *punishment* for the employers who have been working these illegals ??

Wonder if Bush thinks these millions of employers of the illegals are *suddenly* going to start paying a decent wage, benefits, & their end of the taxes ?? If these were 'law-abiding' employers, they wouldn't have been working 'illegals' to begin with.

Without 'secure borders' there will always be 'illegal workers' & employers who will work them (off the books, of course!!)

I have clients who employ illegal aliens. They pay them the same as they pay anyone else. They suspect they are illegal, but they show up with documents that are probably forged, and they have to treat them like everyone else. The employers are between a rock and a hard place. If they start treating Hispanic applicants differently, and demand more proof, or check their ID's more carefully, the EEOC would be on them so fast it would make their heads spin.

Why pay me my wage when you can pay Pedro half as much?

Bring thier lifestyle standards UP TO OURS. Don't force me to LOWER MY STANDARDS.

No one is going to win with this. This is gonna' cause me to really think hard about who I vote for. Immigration is one thing I won't comprimise on.

I was forced out of Michigan because of it, I'm not gonna welcome filth into my life again.

I don't have a problem if that dream includes learning English, and eschewing their loyalty to the country they came from in favor of the country of their "dreams"

Hey, bring as many as we can... As long as WE don't have to pay for them. 10 years of job holding before you can draw on the social system would be a start...

Like most RATS, they leave out the key word in this argument about immigration. The word is illegal (vs. legal immigration). It has nothing to do with being selfish. It has to do with the rule of law. The RATS know nothing about the rule of law and never will learn.

No, it's not up to us to find legal ways for them to remain here if they are now law-breakers. They should go the route that every nation, including Mexico, requires for any immigrants--they have to go through the legal system of the nation to which they want to immigrate. If they do not go through this system of laws--they are here illegally and nothing will change that.

By the way, what is the "exit strategy" here? (RATS like exit strategies although they never seem to know what that means). How many illegals should get amnesty and then what happens (like it did last time), when millions more arrive and stay? Giving them amnesty simply means that millions more will then show up looking for freebies and ever more amnesties.

Yes, I know many work with forged papers, (also illegal) but many work 'under the table', for cash.

The employers are between a rock and a hard place. If they start treating Hispanic applicants differently, and demand more proof, or check their ID's more carefully, the EEOC would be on them so fast it would make their heads spin.>>>>

Again, *if* the gov't were doing their job, seeking out the illegal employers & fining them (according to law), then all employers would be justified in verifying ALL ID's & SS #'s.
