There are Americans with an Asian heritage - and then there are Asians who live in/off of America.

There are Americans with a Mexican heritage - and then there are Mexicans who live in/off of America.

New Americans are always welcome. Parasites are not.

Assimilate or leave.

By the year 2010 you will have to speak Spanish in the USA to do business. Because of ILLEGALS.

We are also a country of laws that must be abided by. If someone wants to be part of America legally then let them (if resources allow). However, they should be "tested."

How many illegals from south of the border still have allegiance to Mexico and other nations to the south. If war were to break out between the U.S. and Mexico, how many would side with Mexico? Heck, many want Texas, California, etc. returned to Mexico.

There is a difference from the past -- the rule of law and loyalty. If they pass these tests, and resources allow, let them in.

"Legal or illegal, people will come to America because they have a dream of being free."

Yeah, but free to do what? Unlimited access to America so they can perform another 9/11?

You portray the liberal view that ALL immigrants are desireable and noble, honest citizens-to-be. If people want to come to America to be Americans, fine and well, but to allow them to bring the baggage of their phony religions and customs that impoverished them in their native countries with them and hole up in ethnic ghettos when they get here is hardly the assimilation that is desired.

From what you espouse, the old mantra should be "Divided we stand, united we fall."

'Course, liberals seem to relish the prospect of destroying what made America great.

Wow, now that's the first sane comment I've read that offers a solution to the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants that are already here. We let them become part of the solution and start paying into the dream...imagine that. I was beging to think that everyone else wanted to just either shoot them, arrest them or fill the jails with them that way we could let the real criminals out, and then deport them. I'm sure everyone would like to increase their tax base so they can get rid of the unsightly illegal immigrants right. Who's going to volunteer to work the fields and the farms of America? I guess everyone can start growing their own produce in their back yards. Thanks for finding a different way to look at the problem Axenolith...perhaps there is hope for America!

Good point baltodog.

People claim that illegals help the economy, i.e., they produce more than they cost. I question the math and I wonder how the pluses and minuses will add up when employers are required to pay minimum wage, social security, workman’s comp, union wages, etc.

The advantage of cheap labor will be gone.

Will they not hire them? Will they hire them and pass the much higher costs on to the consumer?

The original "indians" didn't control their immigration problem, and look what it got them.

One of the biggest eye openers I ever had was driving through National City, California on Cinco de Mayo.

Nope, what I portray is that we have always had illegals. What I desire is a solution that doesn't break the bank by throwing them into jail, deporting them so they can come back, or just simply shooting them. All of those choices are not acceptable and I don't think you want to pay for them either by raising the tax base, so the only other solution is making them a part of the solution. You don't have to just give the farm away at first. Make them pay for the franchise that they desire. The sky is the limit and the SS system needs more participants or the baby boomers will march on Washinton because they aren't getting their checks in 7 to 8 years. As far as the illegals who are criminals, well we have a judicial system that will take care of them, and those are the ones who we deport or lock up and make them work under the federal prision system (God forbid). So, what is your idea for a solution?

"So, what is your idea for a solution?"

Simple. Quit lettin' them in carte blanche, like the assembly line visa mill in Saudi Arabia was doing.

We can undo the mischief that Bobby Kennedy did when he abolished the immigration quotas and re-establish the system that served for over 180 years before that.

"Diversity is our strength" is the saddest myth that has come down the pike in a long time.

Remove the financial incentive for them to come here. ie:

Anyone who hires an illegal and gets caught goes to jail.

Oh and BTW, the "who will work the fields" argument is bovine fecal material. I spent plenty of time slogging through the mud of midwestern fields while paying my way through college - but today I'd have to speak spanish.

Also, who "works the fields" in Europe? European agriculture seems to be doing just fine without illegal labor.

It is up to us to find a way to make them a legal part of the system.

No, it's up to them to obey our laws and come here LEGALLY and become Americans, not sneak in and try to turn our Country into the same turdworld hellholes they left.

Who's going to volunteer to work the fields and the farms of America?'

There are hundreds of thousands of American farmers who work the fields and farms of America.

Legal or illegal, people will come to America because they have a dream of being free. It is up to us to find a way to make them a legal part of the system. Most important thing is that they become a participant in the system and the economy...work, pay taxes, and elect representation.

We already have a system in place for people who want to come to America because they have a dream of being free. That system is called immigration, legal immigration.

How about "any city" U.S.A. during Cinco De Mayo. Lots of waving of Mexican flags, demands that the southwestern part of the U.S. be returned to Mexico, general nastiness towards "gringos"...

Although I am proud of my Heinz 57 heritage, I don't have any allegiance to any of the countries my ancestors came from. I can't even speak their native languages. Nor would I demand that my state accommodate my speaking my "native" languages.

I am America-American.

The arguement that people won't do the work in the fields is bogus. It will get done, thats what M-A-R-K-E-T forces are for. I notice also that you nicely skirt the problem of all of the handouts they get too, handouts that FAR exceed what they contribute, and that dilutes those handouts (lame as they are for anyone) for LEGAL AMERICAN CITIZENS...

Yeah...right....They get out there and pick each and every stinking bell pepper, strawberry, cucumber, polebean, lettuce, snowpea pods, squash......etc. No, what they do is rely on migrant farm workers, alot of them are illegals and the system would collapse without them.....I don't blame the farmer who hires them either. He has to get the produce picked and to the market or he looses everything he works for. How about offering your ideas and solutions to the illegals instead of nit picking mine. We might find ourselves in an meaningful conversation....at least meaningful to me. Thanks for the reply!
