All I know is what her advisers who have been with her for years are telling her. Katherine is a strong woman. She will decide on her own, make up her own mind.

The bottom line problem is, if Bush wins the state, she will get no credit, and will be a junior Senator who has severely angered her party leader and White House.

If Bush loses, she will get all the blame.

If she wins, she is a weak Senator.

If she loses, at any level, primary or general, it's adios KH.

KH running for Senate now is like splitting face cards at a Las Vegas blackjack table. You are giving up the second best hand in the deck for a change, perhaps a slim chance, at getting the big Enchilada.

KH v. Nelson in 06? She wins, in a walkaway, with everyone's support. Now, no matter what the voters do in her potential senate election, she could lose big.

Bad odds. Her call completely, but the smart money says wait two years..... and she SHOULD be the smartest one at the table.

I agree with most of that, but I think she'd be a good candidate and would energize the Republican vote as much as RATs. Unfortunately, the Republican field is pretty lackluster up to now. A strong enough candidate will beat her in the primary. In any case, it seems unlikely that she would call a press conference just to say she isn't running.
