Why doesn't the White House want her to run?
Because she's definitely a weaker candidate than Mel Martinez. Because she has poor approval ratings. Because polls show her losing to Betty Castor in the general election. Because her candidacy will take the focus off the Bush campaign agenda and make it impossible for Florida voters to get any Bush message besides "Katherine Harris selected Bush president." Hello, we moved on a long time ago, why give the Democrats and the press a chance to obscure the GOP message?

Can you provide a link to those polls. I ask because KH told me that she was told she would help BUSH if Castor won.

Again, though, which candidate will have the best activist base to counter what Dean will bring to bear in Florida?
Castor will arguably BENEFIT from having Dean's activists working for her. They'll be using that, I think, despite the failure in 2002 to make it stick to Jeb.
There is already a push to "re-defeat" Bush by a Democrats.com bigwig. So we're already dealing with angry "aggressive progressives" who will be focused on beating Bush and excited about Howard Dean.
Katherine Harris has the ability to counter that, IMO, which could be a plus.
