Bush's Ridiculous Speech About Immigration Reform

Bush's Ridiculous Speech About Immigration Reform

I just want to comment on a few of the things that jumped out at me as I read the text of Bush's speech about the horrendous new immigration legislation he is going to propose.

To begin with, this line just chaps me...

"As a nation that values immigration and depends on immigration, we should have immigration laws that work and make us proud. Yet today we do not."

No, our immigration laws don't work or make us proud. You know why? Because we don't make an effort to enforce them. It's like telling your kid to clean his room, having him watch TV instead, and then having him look you in the eye and say, "you know the system we're using to get my room cleaned up just isn't working".

Here's more from Bush...

"Many undocumented workers have walked mile after mile, through the heat of the day and the cold of the night. Some have risked their lives in dangerous desert border crossings or entrusted their lives to the brutal rings of heartless human smugglers.

BUSH: Workers who seek only to earn a living end up in the shadows of American life, fearful, often abused and exploited.

When they're victimized by crimes they're afraid to call the police or seek recourse in the legal system. They are cut off from their families far away, fearing if they leave our country to visit relatives back home they might never be able to return to their jobs."

Yes, that's pretty much what happens to criminals everywhere isn't it? I mean even though a drug dealer works hard and does dangerous work, he can't very well call the police and tell them someone stole his crack can he? Of course, if he were in an honest profession or if the illegal aliens obeyed our laws, they wouldn't have this problem would they?

Then Bush tosses off this whopper about the border...

"First, America must control its borders. Following the attacks of September the 11th, 2001, this duty of the federal government has become even more urgent, and we're fulfilling that duty."

No, the government isn't "fulfilling that duty". We still have illegals, drug dealers, and probably terrorists pouring across our border because the Bush administration even after 9/11, will not commit the necessary resources and manpower to get the job done.

Then this paragraph begs an obvious question...

"Employers must not hire undocumented aliens or temporary workers whose legal status has expired. They must report to the government the temporary workers they hire and who leave their employ so that we can keep track of people in the program and better enforce our immigration laws. There must be strong workplace enforcement with tough penalties for anyone -- for any employer violating these laws."

...and that question is, "why can't we go ahead and do that NOW"? If we did this today, most of the people who are here illegally would go home because they couldn't find jobs. So why do we have to wait until after we've made all these illegals who don't respect our laws into citizens to do this?

Then there's this...

"The citizenship line, however, is too long, and our current limits on legal immigration are too low.

My administration will work with the Congress to increase the annual number of green cards that can lead to citizenship."

Our population is growing as it is and isn't unemployment higher than we'd like as it is? So why do we want to INCREASE the number of people flooding into our country legally?

Last but not least, Bush hit this theme several times...

"Reform must begin by confronting a basic fact of life and economics: Some of the jobs being generated in America's growing economy are jobs American citizens are not filling."

As Mark Krikorian explained in yesterday's National Review, those jobs would be filled by Americans if the illegals weren't driving down wages.

Does that not make perfect sense? I mean people get all up in arms about companies going overseas to get cheap labor, but when the cheap labor COMES HERE, those same people just assume that Americans "won't do those jobs". Sure they will, just not at the same price.

I can only hope that Congress fights Bush all the way on this bill and stops it cold. Giving illegal aliens legal status is only going to cause even more of them to flood across our borders to fill up our prisons, our schools, and leech off of our social services. Our government should be doing everything in its power to stop them instead of rewarding them for breaking our laws.

"Some of the jobs being generated in America's growing economy are jobs American citizens are not filling."

Usually, with capitalism, the more dangerous, hard-to-fill and "undesirable" a job is, the more it pays. If no one here wants to dig ditches, then eventually people who need ditches dug, would pay premium wages...or just do it themselves.

With the fact that these illegals escape to Mexico for a month or so out of the year to escape paying income taxes, is proof enough they are looking for an easy dollar and could give a hoot less about America.

Now, many of the illegals are working at high paying jobs in construction, etc. You can't tell me that if there was an job opening in construction that there isn't an American anywhere who would fill it. The jobs would all get filled, IF the employer would make it worth their while...after all, minimum wage is better than no wage at all.

Now you understand!

Bush will deal with the illegals and those who fail to register, HARSHLY.

After the enactment of this policy, any remaining illegals will be considered to represent a potential security threat to our great nation.

Here's the plan, but remember, Bush inherited this mess, so while it isn't perfect, it is a great beginning. Follow along:

1. Provide a means for those aliens already working in legitimate jobs for American companies or private families, and who truly deserve an American future, to properly obey and respect our laws, and let us also be kind to their families too. These are the high-profile sympathy cases that could destroy the GOP presidency if lumped in with the worst of the aliens. These hard luck stories will otherwise fill the airwaves, and many GOP and independent voters will feel the legitimate pain and suffering of such refugees. Call them the "Elians";
2. Provide a more efficient means for the next wave of good people to apply legitimately for access before they too become illegals. Call them the "Pre-emptives";
3. Bear down HARD on the remaining illegals, and begin to treat them as that: ILLEGAL. Without remorse and without shame, get rid of them. Call them the "Osamas". For the first time, given the cover of a legitimate and efficient access pathway, THERE WILL BE NO EXCUSE FOR THEIR BEHAVIOR.

So, keep the Elians, work with the Pre-Emptives, and dump the Osamas.

Come now, Freepers, you can get there, if you try.

If by "no wage at all" you mean welfare, you might be wrong about that.

"I've got a proposal for Limbaugh and Hannity. The next time you have a caller on the phone who thinks it's alright for these illegals to keep comming into this country, interrupt them after they have spoken only a few words. Then ask them to hang on while you take a call that just came in. When you return to them, repeat what you have just done and keep interrupting them and asking them to hang on while you take a call that just came in. When they finally get pissed off and start letting you know about it, you can simply say "oh, I didn't think you had a problem with people jumping to the front of the line."

Brilliant Yes, that's it.

ILLEGAL Immigrants, Showing No Respect of Our Laws or Order

Now, WHICH ones do YOU respect and which ones should be given "rights." It clear which ones President Bush respects and has compassion for.

Wait a minute.

What is this deafening array of yells from our extremists about "the failure to enforce our immigration laws"? What sense does this make from self proclaimed conservatives? How many employers providing work to these illegals are conservatives themselves? Since when did conservatives go begging to government to police themselves? Why are not employers complying with the laws? Are more tax evaders prosecuted than illegals deported? No. Why? Because the majority of Americans try to comply with the law.

This is absurd, this turning to the government to solve problems. Why not contact employers who are inviolation directly? If you have evidence of the violation, submit it to the Immigration service or your Congressman.

This is laughable that conservatives have chosen to look to the government to solve this problem. Aren't we supposed to solve most of our own? Why would conservatives want an expansion of bureaucracy to break into homes in the barrios to ship people with infant US citizens out of the country.

I think some of us should, just to see what happens, (and only if you see this) call an INS (Dept of Homeland Security Office) and tell them you have seen suspected illegal aliens, and you would like to report it. And what will they do.

In view of the President's speech, I wonder what their response will be.

See how he has screwed things up even more?! I'll bet local law enforcement is wondering, what the heck do we do now with illegals that we catch. Let them go? Refer them to INS? What a crazy situation. Not to mention this,

in the Mexican papers yesterday (top headline) literally inviting even MORE illegal border crossing. Sick.

This needs to be hit hard!

Calls and Fax's to our representatives need to be made, but that is not enough.

This is an election year!
I strongly encourage everyone who wants to see this travesty fail to get involved with the formal party structure.

The party depends on it's grassroots organizations.
Most states will be having their county precinct meetings very soon.
If you attend you can submit and vote on items for the party platform.
Attendance may also make you eligible to attend the state party convention, where you get to vote on what stays in the platform.

You see where I am headed here?

The national platform is compiled from the state platforms.
If enough state platforms contain a strong plank against this "amnesty" by that or any other name, the national platform should do the same.
If we can get that plank passed conservatives in congress will have to take note of it, which should insure certain defeat for any amnesty bill.

We must become more active in the party structure in order to move it back toward honest conservatism. This amnesty is not honest, of conservative!

I am tired of being taken for granted, I feel like I am being given a choice between a broken arm and a broken leg, with the party telling me I have to support them no matter what they do in order to avoid two broken legs later!

And yes, I am attending my local republican party precinct meeting tonight.

You must be joking. The employers know they have nothing to fear, and haven't had for 18 years. You might as well shoot yourself in the foot!!

Good.

And, if you have a GOP Congressman, call his/her office in a neutral tone, and ask what his position is on the President's immigration plan. If waffling or positive, give 'em the shaft, if opposed, tell them you will get EVERY ONE OF YOUR VOTING FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO RETURN THEM TO CAPITOL HILL ON ACCOUNT OF IT.

Not only political platforms (which mean nothing when it comes to policy) but also the reelection fortunes of the congresscritters. Key.

Amen. Principles over Party.
Too many people here seem to give Bush
a blank-check/endorsement of anything the man does,
simply because he's Republican or because he's
"not Clinton". Meanwhile, Bush's increased
gov't spending and size increases
make him less & less of a fiscal conservative.

Amen again there Blzbba !
The similarities between Clintonoids
and BushBots , here ,
has been Hilarious at times !
I've pointed it out a time or two myself ,
only to be hooted at by the NeoCons here .
