I have two questions:
1. Can we get Ed Koch and Zell Miller to go on tour together?
and
2. Am I the only one who thinks that, because of people like this, Bush can carry New York?

I've said it before --- I am a one issue voter. Far more important than anything else is the defense of this nation.

Some very good reasons.

Thanks for giving the whole article! This is a great list of President Bush's foreign policy triumphs. Ping to Southack; apparently Mayor Koch has been reading YOUR stuff!

Wow, I thought those Dems didn't exist anymore. They are called Neo-cons.
To: Tim Osman
if they were smart they'd dump Dean and go with the sure bet, Bush.
Yep, that's what they keep saying over at DU... they just adore the way Bush "panders" to the left.
Get serious.

a) not going to get him any (or at least, that many) leftist votes and
b) alienating conservatives!

I believe in the values of the Democratic Party as articulated by Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson and by Senators Hubert Humphrey, Henry "Scoop" Jackson and Daniel Patrick Moynihan. Our philosophy is: "If you need a helping hand, we will provide it." The Republican Party's philosophy, on the other hand, can be summed up as: "If I made it on my own, you will have to do the same." FDR was a socialist, communist lover and appeaser. LBJ was a jerk.
And I'm tired of this blatant lie and stereotype of "Democrats care but Republicans don't".
For Democrats, it's more like, "If you need a helping hand, we will provide lifelong care so you don't ever have to get off your duff and do anything since we know you are helpless and too stupid and we need to create giant bureaucracies we can fill up with our political cronies and buy votes with".
Republicans say, "If I made it on my own, you can too. And we'll keep taxes and business regulations to a minimum so you can achieve the American dream and move up the ladder of success on your own terms. Need help? Fine, but we'll teach you to fish rather than feed you fish everyday for the rest of your life".

My fault, I should have been clearer. A tone of voice doesn't always translate well via print :-)

If any Truman-JFK type democrat was honest with themselves, they would vote for Bush
If any Truman-JFK type democrat were to win their nomination they might beat W. I'm surprised that the dems have devolved to the point where this is patently impossible!

Ed Koch has earned the benefit of the doubt that his motive is primarily his outrage over 9/11 and the falure of his fellow Democrats to demonstrate a genuine intention of doing something about it.
Koch trusts, as many non-Republican Americans do, the GOP on matters of foreign policy and war and not just on Israel.
If Koch also cares about Israel, he is entitled and so are those of us who are not Jews but have a firm attachment to our most faithful ally in the Mideast.

Just for the moment could you consider that Bush also knows he is not going to "win votes" and is making conservtives unhappy but he is doing what HE thinks is right?

I am a one issue voter. Far more important than anything else is the defense of this nation. I like the clarity of that statement, Doug, and I'm with you. I'm unhappy about the amnesty, which in the long run is a greather threat to the USA than the Muslim wackos, but the fact is that the Democrats are infinitely worse on the war, and the best of them is almost as bad as Bush on the borders).
As long as Democratic Foreign Policy runs the full gamut from negotiated captitulation to unconditional surrender, there's no point taking them seriously.

Just for the moment could you consider that Bush also knows he is not going to "win votes" and is making conservtives unhappy but he is doing what HE thinks is right? I certainly might think that if I weren't aware of the existence of one Karl Rove!

I certainly might think that if I weren't aware of the existence of one Karl Rove! Oh come on. GW has a Texas attitude about the border, which has been virtually open since the Republic of Texas. He has a real soft spot for Mexicans and always has. Look, GW is taking a hit on this but he also doesn't care. His life will go on if he is voted out but he is a stubborn cuss and will do what he thinks is right regardless.
To: BlackElk
I also believe, like Koch, that Lieberman would be the best candidate against Bush. I like his integrity, if nothing else. If any of the other bozo's get it, I might have to pull a Baldwin and leave the country. I keep saying Bush can't loose, but then again, I said "Surely nobody will vote for Clinton again." Most people want the easiest Dem to beat, to get the nod. I worry that something might happen to Bush, and then what? I'd rather have someone who isn't a complete idiot running against him.
I know I'm a worrier "A" type personality, but I'm already dreading 2008 because of Hitlery. I keep saying, "Surely they are tired of murder investigations and stealing silverware." But you never know. Who will be the Repub that comes to the front after Bush? Probably some milk toast middle of the roader. We could even run our own woman,......Olympia Snowe!
