The Myth of a Stolen Election
The Wall Street Journal Editorial Page ^ | REPOST - Tuesday, July 17, 2001 | Bob Zelnick

Readers of the New York Times were treated on Sunday to a massive report claiming that hundreds of overseas Florida ballots cast in violation of state law were nonetheless counted by election officials under pressure from representatives of George W. Bush. While even the Times stops short of claiming that inclusion of the "flawed" votes spelled the difference between victory and defeat for Mr. Bush, the report is clearly meant to provide ammunition for those who question the legitimacy of his victory and presidency.

The mainstream press and media did much to cover up such stories at the time. This is a reminder of how corrupt the democratic machine can be and will be in 2004. Chicago set up some rules in time for the election so prisoners could vote! Some 15,000 did - but our Military absentee votes were denied. Democrats are ruthless and those corrupting the process have ruined their party.Do not forget!

I bet the Bush administration will be sure the military votes are counted this time.

Bump.

You can only get a dimpled or pregnant chad if you place more than one voting card in the voting machine.

I tell you, I'm shocked this story would run, especially in an election year. Certainly no ulterior motive could be assigned to bringing up this issue again, in an election year.

The writers and editors at the Times obviously feel this story will be a good way to encourage people to vote Democratic. But I'm not so sure.

Outside of Manhattan (and a few other kook enclaves) the U. S. military is actually held in very high esteem. It's the biggest and best force for good in the whole world. The more voters get reminded that the Democrats are anti-military, the better for Republicans.

"What the story fails to report"

So what's new .. it's called selective memory.

I do know that after a year had gone by, and the Miami Herald and a couple of other left-leaning papers pooled their money and did their own recount (Recount #7 I think) .. they STILL COULD NOT COME UP WITH A GORE WIN. However .. this story was either hidden in the back pages of most papers, or not reported at all.

This is nothing new. CBS was only too happy to say that Cheney's Halliburton had overcharged the govt .. but when Halliburton was cleared of the charge .. CBS has not even reported on the story. Again .. what they didn't report tells more about who they are than what they did report.

And .. as FOX has done for 2 days .. they have pointed out that many of the members of the media always say "Cheney's Halliburton" when it's something bad .. and just "Halliburton" when it's something good .. and in the case of CBS .. they don't even mention it at all.

Wellllll, what could they do? Someone had to help all the deceased registered voters with their ballots!

I agree with you. Geez, the last thing the Dems want revisited is how they treated the military in the 2000 election. But hey, I'll be glad to dredge it up.

They also fail to ever report the fact that the networks all announcing that the Florida election was over one hour before the polls closed in the heavily Republican Florida panhandle easily cost Bush thousands of votes.

Zelnick was a reporter for one of the broadcast network's (NBC?) TV evening news programs for many years.

Yeah .. I think only conservative groups have kept that information alive. I think they finally came up with a total of 10,000-15,000 votes were lost. The information came from votes counted in other elections.

Does anyone havea final total on the election results? Including some of the settled lawsuites for voter fraud? I've already got the "official" numbers from the Sec. of State, but what about more current numbers? It seems not a week has gone by without some other legal case being decided in Bush's favor. Does he actually have the majority vote by now?

This would go a long way towards shutting up those detractors of the electoral college.

The NYT and the liberal establishment have clearly decided to try to take down Bush by harping on Florida and the myth of the stolen election. It's guaranteed to fail, because most normal people have long since "moved on".

Excellent article by the WSJ. Surely their staff must hold the inept Gray Lady in humorous contempt.
