What's New [American Physical Society rant vs. President Bush, America, Mars exploration, science]

Friday, January 9, 2004 American Physical Society (APS) and Dr. Robert Park
The New York Times reported yesterday that a 400-member team of military weapons hunters has been quietly withdrawn from Iraq, to be
replaced by a force trained to deal with homemade bombs. This must be "the imminent threat" we were told about before the war. On
Wednesday, the Washington Post reported that, "Iraq’s arsenal exists only on paper." In fact, plans for a long-range missile consisted of a
hand drawn sketch on two sheets of notebook paper. The 1,400 member Iraq Survey Group has searched Iraq for more than seven months
at a cost of hundreds of millions of dollars. Citing "unauthorized" interviews with Survey Group members, the Post report says the Group
now sees no prospect of finding banned weapons
or production facilities. Also on Wednesday, the Carnegie Endowment for International
Peace released a report on WMD in Iraq. In the months before the war, it says,"the intelligence community began to be unduly influenced by
policymakers views"

Yesterday, Secretary of State Powell conceded that at the time of his UN speech last year, he had no concrete evidence linking Saddam
Hussein to Al Queda. Where had the administration gotten its information? I decided to call my colleague, Ali Mentari, a nuclear physicist
Bagdad U.
"How did you fool a smart guy like Powell," I asked. Ali paused long enough to finish chewing, "We not try to fool Americans.
You got no idea of what we must do to survive under homicidal maniac. Saddam say ‘build atomic bomb,’ but we got no stuff to make
bomb. So we drink tea and send reports to Saddam about great progress. We are truly sorry your CIA intercept them." The eating resumed;
the interview was over.

Those stirring words were spoken by President George H. Bush on the steps of the Air and Space Museum on July 24, 1989, the 20th
anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing. He called for a return to the Moon, and on to Mars. President George W. Bush, who seems
driven to complete his father’s unfinished work, is expected to issue a similar call next Wednesday. It’s a curiously old-fashioned dream.
Progress of society is measured by the extent to which work that is menial or dangerous is performed by machines. The scientists that
command telerobots like Spirit, having become virtual astronauts, are the explorers of today.

In this week's American Physical Society (APS) anti-science tax-free rant, Dr. Robert Park
and the American Physical Society attack their enemies and ignore another opportunity to actually use science or physics.
Here the American Physical Society actually quotes New York Times for "data"
used to self-servingly put down the Armies of Good, and then goes after
Mars exploration, as the APS supports Baathists,
and as the APS seeks closer ties to further influence news media (click URL).

Is it not amazing to see how science at American Physical Society has fallen.

Help FReepers, do you think there really is an Ali Mentari, a nuclear physicist at Bagdad U?

Also, what do you think about pseudoscientists read the New York Times instead of actually looking at data?

Ignored by the misnamed American Physical Society,
in favor of known-fraudulent words printed in the New York Times.

========= Chemical Warhead found in Kirkuk =============

Chemical warhead found at an Iraqi air base, marked with a green band,
the symbol for chemical weaponry
. Trace amounts of a nerve agent were found
at two spots along the ~meter-long warhead. These amounts are consistent with
leakage from the chemically armed weapon. A 13-foot missile was found next to it.

========= Mass Graves =========

In Najaf, skull unearthed from yet another mass grave of Saddam.

========= Halabja =========

Dead children, previously playing in Halabja
Victims of Saddams' WMD in March 1988.

=========== Documents linking Atta, Saddam, Nidal, bin Ladin ===========

Handwritten letter dated Feb. 19, 1998 linking bin Laden and Saddam Hussein
discussing arrival of a secret envoy sent by bin Laden to Iraq.
The signature beneath the letter is a codename, "MDA" - the Mukhabarat.

=========== 911 Atrocities ===========

Those who do not learn from the PAST or who profit by such terror,
again condemn innocent Americans to repeat it.

Park was a reasonably good scientist, and now a raving nut. The American Physical Society, like many once-good organizations, has been taken over by the socialists and lost its reputation.

Besides the psycho-sexual murder of perhaps a million of his own people, Saddam is the greatest ecological criminal in human history.

But the left never lets such little trivialties get in the way of its supposedly deep love of humanity.

Most of Academic science has. It is a myth that the cancer is only in the humanities. You cannot even get a job if you do not mouth this junk, let alone get tenure. Our coleges are not what the used to be.

I think we should start to dry up money from Universities which are left oriented. Research can be transfered to other universities.

The key is going to be to make the democrat party extinct.

It is not like they would be missed.
