The tiniest human

This award winning photograph was taken by Robert Wolfe, Medical Photographer at the University of Minnesota. This tiny unborn child was yet alive at this moment, only 6-7 weeks after the first day of last menstrual period, a just removed tubal (ectopic) pregnancy.

"Eleven years ago while administering an anesthetic for ruptured ectopic pregnacy (at two months gestation) I was handed what I believe was the smallest living human being ever seen. The embryo sac was intact and transparent. Within the sac was a tiny (approx. 1cm) human male swimming extremely vigorously in the amniotic fluid, while attached to the wall by the umbilical cord.

"This tiny human was perfectly developed, with long tapering fingers, feet and toes. It was almost transparent, as regards the skin, and the delicate arteries and veins were prominent to the ends of the fingers. The baby was extremely alive and swam about the sac approximately one time per second, with a natural swimmer's stroke. This tiny human did not look at all like the photos and drawings and models of 'embryos' which I have seen, nor did it look like the few embryos I have been able to observe since then, obviously because this one was alive.

"The swimming human was observed by the Head Surgery nurse and our children, who were called out of school to observe such a unique phenomenon. When the sac was opened, the tiny human immediately lost its life and took on the appearance of what is accepted as the appearance of an embryo at this age.

Six months later, at a lecture in embryology at Harvard University, I had occasion to ask the approximately 150 physicians present whether any had witnessed such a phenomenon. All were amazed and none had seen nor heard of such an event…"

Scientists are already working on artificial womb environs into which an alive baby such as the one in the photos may be placed when removed from the life-threatening situation. You can read about this and many other related issues of the earliest ages of individual human lifetimes at THIS LINK.

Please feel free to download and print the manuscript, and please share it with your Pastor or Priest and anyone whom you believe may need to understand these issues more fully. [Yes, I wrote it, so I can give it away to readers ... my prayer is that folks will read and begin to understand these issues, before our nation embraces cannibalism as enlightened medical technology.]

Makes perfect sense to me. I'm here halfway through my 3rd pregnancy and it has not been a particularly easy road for us to get each of our children. My heart aches for your wife and for you. I will have you both in my prayers.

My mistake, I thought this was going to be a Tom Daschle thread.

You and me both! LOL!

You express exactly how folks who value life feel about their children at any point in the conception, pregnancy, and post birth period. At 4 weeks, this baby was already your child so this loss is devastating.

An amazing question that you can ask of your 'pro-choice' friends is, "Who makes the placenta in which the growing baby resides before exiting into the air world?" No matter where the individual is found, petri dish, uterus, fallopian tube, or liver (a baby was born successfully from a liver last year!), the individual is seeking to survive in its environment.

The vast majority of people do not realize that the baby makes the placenta, for its survival, exhibiting a will to live at the earliest age in its individual lifetime. To this old heart, the will to live is evidence of a soul present, regardless of how that effort is dehumanized by the 'scientific' community.

If medical alternatives fail, and you both still feel you have the room (in both heart and mind) for more children, I do hope you will consider adoption.

Your wife is a very special Lady! Don't give up and keep praying and trusting in The Lord. Many blessings have already been given to you and surely The Lord will provide.

My deepest sympathy to you and your wife. It is heartbreaking to lose a child. I have had 3 miscarriages, one was at 3 months which is still hard to think about years later, especially since I have a sonogram picture of when he/she was alive (but not well I suppose). I can't imagine 7. But, take comfort on the one child you do have together. My miscarriages were all with my second husband, with whom I have no children, and now I'm 45 and I know there never will be any, the time has passed. Fortunately we each had children before, so of course we share in the joy of them. We just figure this is what was meant for us.

I know there had been unsuccessful attempts to replace ectopic pregnancies into the womb. I think I remember hearing about the artificial womb research. Thanks for the link.

This article and photos are really powerful. Thanks so much for posting.

"Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Thy book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when yet there was not one of them. Wonderful are Thy works and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from Thee, when I was made in secret. And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth." (Psalms 139:15,16)

BTW--After reading through these posts, I'm reminded of some truly great Christian doctors who will take holy water and inject a drop or 2 into the embryonic sac while saying the words of Baptism BEFORE starting the surgery.

Second BTW--Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life is in Baton Rouge for a big Pro-Life rally tomorrow. He said the vigil Mass which I attended. A young couple had their baby girl Baptized during Mass with Fr. Frank assisting--very special.
