If President Bush didn't ask for war plans for our enemies within the first month in office, he wouldn't be doing his job.
We had pilots risking their lives patrolling the "No-Fly Zones" at a huge cat to us, as the U"N. was cashing in on the "Oil for Food" program.
In 1998 Congress passed a resolution calling for Regime change in Iraq, That alone calls for President Bush to make sure he knows all of his options. I'm sure the leftist liberals in the media think they have another scandal to talk about, I guarantee it will back fire on them and only show that the President was just doing his, something his predecessor wasn't capable of.
GOT THAT :-)

Of course there was a plan. They're called contingency plans.

Well, someone, hopefully, because any war has to be paid for. And anyway, the point is that we're supposed to be in Iraq because of terrprism and WMDs - but that can't be true if they started planning this war before Bush even knew how to spell Al Qaeda.

We were drawing up plans for the whole middle east when I was in the Air Force back in the 70s. If we didn't have contingency plans built before they happen then the war is lost before it starts. Slick Willie said that he even briefed President Bush about the evils of Iraq and Afghanistan on the turnover. This is not a big revelation it was meant to sell books

The planning for the U.S. invasion of Iraq began early in 2001 - long before 911. If that is the case, then what becomes of our rationale for this war? It's called a contingency plan. They anticipated the possibility of hostilities down the road and prepared for it. Granted, a nimrod like O'Neill couldn't understand that subtlety, and neither can the "Bush is Hitler" crowd in our major media.

I agree. Who indeed talks to the treasury fellow about war. What an ego this Oneil (sp) has.

To: Bouldin
If you don't like Bush just say so - but don't insult him. Besides who knows how to spell L kida anyway? Dose it really matter?

What is this crap in the 60 Minutes promos running during the football game where O'Neill supposedly says GWB was like a blind man talking to deaf people? How insensitive! He smeared two special interest groups in one sentence. Way to go!

So, where's the beef?
Everything from O'Neill indicates President Bush hit the ground running, fully engaged on national defense, and fully knowledgeable on the very real threats that were coming due after the Clinton administration swept them under the carpet for 8 years.
But wait! The early rap on Bush was that he was geographically challenged. Couldn't even name other world leaders, and didn't know jack about world affairs. Damn democrats...they can't keep their lying criticisms straight.

Al Qaeda is spelled several different ways; perhaps if you read a book about the Middle East you'd know that. So would O'Neil.

If Colin Powell or Donald Rumsfeld or others with gravitas, were making some kind of allegation,it might be newsworthy. But,this poor guy, with his speech impediment and bug eyes,is more to be pitied. And that picture of O'Neill in Africa with Bono, where he is wearing native garb and looks like Papa Smurf, will be dredged up. Adding to his humiliation. The only loser in this,is Paul O'Neill.
