Bricks with molded designs unearthed in Chongqing

www.chinaview.cn 2004-01-12 20:52:43

CHONGQING, Jan. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Archaeologists in southwest China's Chongqing municipality have unearthed more than 20 pieces of brick reliefs from a tomb of the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 A.D.-220 A.D.).

Lin Bizhong, a noted archaeologist with the Chongqing MunicipalArchaeological Team, said this was the first time that bricks withmolded designs had been unearthed in Chongqing.

Previously, such tomb bricks had been excavated from Sichuan province, southwest China, and have been included as relics under state key protection.

Lin acknowledged that the brick-and-stone-structured tomb, fromwhich brick reliefs were unearthed, had been robbed, so they did not find anything valuable in the tomb besides the bricks.

Designs on the bricks include horse-drawn carriages accompaniedby honor guards, the image of Fuxi, or the sun god in ancient China, and images of high-nosed and hollow-eyed people, who might be from varied ethnic groups or foreigners.

According to experts, designs of horse-drawn carriages with honor guards indicated that the tomb owner was of high social status, bricks with the image of Fuxi were important materials forstudying religion and culture at that time, and the images of foreigners reflected cultural exchanges between the East and West in Eastern Han dynasty.

Moreover, archaeologists also found traces of red color on these bricks and held that might be traces of color painting. End item

These people are the remnants of the red-headed mummies found in the Tarim Basin of China.

The Curse Of The Red-Headed Mummy

There are many poems lamenting the green eyes of the Han Emperors. There is also frequent mention of the red-headed 'magic men' of the Han emperors.

My eyes are green. Nothing in the family mythology about China, though.

Notice on the map how far south Chongqing is in relation to Urumchi (to the north, Turpan Perch) where the Caucasian mummies were found. There were/are no Chinese skeletons or mummies in the whole region until beginning around 100BC.

"My eyes are green. Nothing in the family mythology about China, though."

You can probably trace your lineage to the Yuezhi who were beaten by the Xiongnu who fought with the Han Dynasties for centuries, the Han eventually defeated the Xiongnu. The Xiongnu were closely related to the Scythians who were the most feared fighters across the steppes.

BTW, you only began wearing pants with the domestication of the horse in the same region.

Also, you are a distant relative of the Hakka Chinese.

Cool. The Great Wall may have been built because of my cousins. Gotta love personal involvement with history.

I am fascinated by the recent spate of article mentioning ancient red-headed groups of people. My dad was a red-head, as were two of his sisters.

My neighbor claims that redheads are descended from a superior race of people. He, of course, is a redhead, as am I, but I don't know that I agree with him on that. But I do know that studies have shown that redheads require more of all types of anesthesia than others do, and most doctors will tell you that redheads tend to bleed more easily and in larger quantities than others as well.

I wonder if there is any link with the Ainu people of northern Japan, or even the skeleton of the caucasian man unearthed in the 1990's in the Pacific Northwest that seemed to pre-date the local Indians (and immediately put under federal control so no scientific research could be conducted that might upset Indian activists and the PC-apple cart)?

You're thinking of Kennewick Man and the Ainu. I think the Ainu were associated with and after the Jomon who I believe came before this 'red-headed' group in this article. The oldest Jomon skeleton ever found, in Japan, is 11,000 years old. Some do associate the Ainu with the 'red-headed' group of this article but, they are in the minority. The Jomon are associated with pottery defined as 'cord pottery. (Incidently, 'cord' pottery has been found in the ruins of the Olmec (1400-300BC) of Mexico...go figure.)

The word slave has it's origins with the 'Slav's'. They were enslaved, by many, for centuries.

My ex-wife (1977), who was a red-head, said that her doctor told her that there is a higher incident of yeast infections also.

I particularly liked the article about the fierce fighting, red headed Scotmen, because my father's Irish (protestant) surname mean fierce fighter or warrior.
