"No way," he replied without hesitation. The trance was broken. Realization set in. He cried briefly, gave me a hug, and assured me manfully he did not want to look like a girl and wear a necklace.Look, I never wanted to wear a necklace, but I would never cry to my mommy about it. The only thing less manly than a guy who wears a necklace is a guy who won't wear one because of what his mommy thinks. Women who raise weak-minded children are failing them. Weak-minded people are never truly moral--at best, they behave themselves out of fear, and at worst they abandon morality for similar reasons.

The Amhearst High School in Mass will not allow the production of West Side Story because the hispanics might find the "stereotyping" offensive. So the school board will instead allow the Vagina Monologues to be performed. That's right...the filthy, foul mouthed Vagina Monologues on High School property.

Just saw that on O'Reilly. Sad.... The parents basically have no guts. They shouldn't fear retaliation by teachers against their kids. I thank God my parents were tough. They took no bull. They stood up for us. They would never have caved in to PC-ness.

The world is going to Hell in a Handbasket! The Youth are corrupt, morals are declining! All of this is true enough, but it's also true that older people (like me now) have been saying this since Hector was a pup! My father, a whose teenage years and early 20's were in the Roaring '20s, said his parents and their friends said the same thing when he was in high school and college. Likewise, my grandmother whose teenaged years were in the late 1880's and early 1890's said her father (a minister) said the same thing when she was a teen and in college. And, if you read history, you'll find Jeramiads against youth corruption all the way back to the Bible.
When a compliant runs that deep, one would think we would have been so thoroughly corrupted by now we'd all be dead.

The author of this is named David, so I assume it was the kid's father who was concerned about the necklace. That particular cultural change does not bother most mothers as much as apparently it did this father.
However, it is very useful as an illustration of how children form their opinions on what is cool and desirable.

Thank G*d that there are so many nice, motivated, respectful teens out there.
Thank G*d for private, Christian schools, that give teens the focus of their life mission.
Thank G*d for excellent coaches that keep kids focused on sports.
Thank G*d for classical musicians that train teens for musical careers (in the classics).
Thank G*d that only a small percentage of teens get caught up in the revolting MTV world.

Recently 7 kids were killed near here when they wrecked their stolen car. Glowing headlines described one kid with the nickname of "Mookie"..That was right up the street.
Those children died of "parentus inabstentious" or "parentus condonius".
The parents KNEW what they were doing, and applauded their rebellious behavior.
Parents have so much more control, if they would just choose to exercise it. Children EXPECT to be disciplined or reigned in and will try more and more outrageous things until they can get a reaction.

"Those children died of 'parentus inabstentious'"
I think you meant "parentus inabsentious".
To: webstersII
inabstentious- characterized by not abstaining (Parents with no self-control breed children with no self-control)
inabsentatious- not absent (they were probably closer to absent than not absent)
I'll stand by inabstentious. No pun intended, LOL.

The people in the mission want to believe it's neglect because they don't have the heart to accept that these children are encouraged to behave in outrageous ways.
Here is an article that contradicts this article in today's WSJ.
One Legacy You Don't Want
To Pass On -- Workaholism
Over the holidays, Alida Cornelius's daughter, a college freshman, brought home a plan that shocked her parents: She would work as a waitress full-time straight through her vacation, including Christmas, taking no time to relax.
Worried that her daughter was becoming a workaholic, Ms. Cornelius urged her to kick back, enjoy some skiing. Her father, Krish Krishnan, says he was dismayed to see his daughter taking his example of working long hours to extremes. "Don't be so hard on yourself," he says he told her.
But their advice fell on deaf ears. Concerned, Dr. Krishnan says he hopes his daughter doesn't become obsessed with work.
As the baby boomlet hits their teens and 20s, many parents are dismayed to see they've created little adults just like themselves: workaholics. They toil to exhaustion, they're stressed and distracted, and they seldom make time to spend with loved ones. The shock of seeing themselves in their kids brings many of these parents to a dead halt.
