Don't be too optimistic. The dems will most likely win 1 of the 5 open seats, and 2 isn't out of the question. They will also most likely win Ill. as well, and Oklahoma, Colorado and Alaska arn't sure things anymore.
Sure, we could win in SD, Cal, Wa, and one or two other races, but I wouldn't count on it. All I'm saying is that if it comes down to it, Specter over a dem.

The choice in November will be TOOMEY vs a Dem.
PICK TOOMEY!!
(of course)

"Polling data seems to indicate Specter would lose to Hoeffel in a matchup. It would be best to go with Toomey, IMHO. I hope he can pull it off. Otherwise, this could be a loss of a Senate seat we cannot afford."
Right!! Isnt it funny that after all these years, Spectre's Silver Bullet Theory of Electability turns out to be a MYTH.
Toomey is the more electable candidate. And the only Conservative. Vote Toomey.

Sphincter is running some really sleezy attack ads against Toomey. Basically accusing him of being an extremest crackpot.

Think your right, and of course. Just saying, if we vote against Specter if by chance he gets the nominee, we might well end up with a Chairman Lehey, not Chairman Kyl.
To: WOSG
Toomey is the more electable candidate.Obviously, and the Democrats have admitted as much.
They wouldn't be rallying their union members to switch registration and vote for Arlen in the primary if they thought Arlen would be tougher to beat in the general election, now would they?
To: WOSG
Not even a close call, if I lived in PA. I'd be voting Toomey.

Be very careful out there, folks.
Specter has asked Democrats to register as Republicans and vote for him rather than Toomey. The Dem elites are complying, and the unions are passing the marching order around. It even got written up in the Guardian.
At one time I thought that Republicans sending money to Nader was a pretty cheap tactic... but when they're actively and openly infiltrating the Republican Party... screw 'em. Honor is wasted on them.

okay.
But I'm optimistic about us having a pickup of 2-5 seats in the Senate. Upside of a gain of about 6. Worst case, net gain of 1. If we cant pickup NC, SC, *and* Georgia Senate seats this year, it'll be a very bad general election. :-/

No. Supporting Toomey is a no-lose proposition. If he wins the general, great. If he beats Spector in the primary and loses the general, we still have Judiciary chaired by a GOP and a more conservative one at that.
The Dems will not recapture the Senate, with or without the PA seat--ain't gonna happen. So worst case, even if we sacrifice the seat to a Democrap, the country is still better off.
To: zbigreddogz
I would not necessarily give the Democrats Illinois. It is a liberal stronghold. But for the most part the democratic electorate is pretty stupid. Illinois is the state where the LaRouchies won the primaries on the underticket for Adlai Stevenson III's bid for the govenorship. They won because they had candidates name Hart and Fairchild running against candidates with some very long ethnic names. The Democratic candidate is named Barak Obama, the Republican is named Jack Ryan. I think Obama looks a lot like Osama and Ryan sounds like the hero of a Tom Clancy novel. On that point alone the Democrats should be nervous.
To: hinckley buzzard
Good grief, why is this so difficult?
YES, I SUPPORT TOOMEY. I HAVE NEVER SAID OTHERWISE. HOWEVER, if by chance, he doesn't win the primary, I would support Specter.
Is this hard to understand?
Sorry to get cranked, but people keep misunderstanding me on this thread.
To: Biblebelter
I wouldn't say Ill. for sure either, but I think we have roughly the same chance of keeping Ill. as we have of winning Ca. or Wa., roughly 35%. We certainly can't count on holding it.
I think we will probably win one of the Wa, Ca, Sd, or Ill. seats. 3 or 4 out of 5 Southern seats. That would put us up about 3, which is good, but then, losing Alaska isn't out of the question (I normally say let Rove have his way, but Lisa the whiner should have had a primary challenge.), and neither is Oak. Now we are just an extra southern loss and a Penn. loss away from having Tiny Tommy on TV all day and Lahey as Judiciary Chairman.
Again, all I'm saying, is IF, and only if, Toomey looses the primary, Specter is preferable to a Dem.
To: Biblebelter
you're not the 1st who thinks Obama looks like Osama. Too bad for him...But the name Ryan in Illinois has some serious baggabe. Go Toomey!
