It is now certain in my mind that access to the treasury by the electorate leads inevitably to socialism. Here is the Republican president who is willing to concede almost anything to socialism to retain power. Here are the Democrats bankrupt of any good ideas whatsoever. In their desperation for power they will grasp any straw. The only straw left is the utter lunacy of total socialism. Now that they are grasping it, this election may be the last the Republicans ever win.

I'd trade having Chris Lehane as press secretary for a paralyzed federal government that didn't pass any more socialist programs.
I was already on your list, wasn't I?

Seems like all there's a lot of unnecessary moaning going on here. Would you rather have a Democrat (socialist) plan? Healthcare accessibility and costs are serious problems that need to be addressed. Let's talk about the real reasons costs have escalated.....IMO....Greed.
Much as a I believe in free enterprise, there are some things that don't belong in the hands of the greediest MBAs in the land. Good business practices need to applied to this industry (that's what it has become), but the pryamiding of administrative and legal costs is a large part of the problem.
Thanks for the heads up on the SOU. I, for one, will be listening with interest and really don't expect to hear anything that will make a single one of the Democrat candidates more attractive than Bush in 2004.

Bush is doing the Republicans a major favor by bringing up the issue now. I think so, too. I read something just the other day about Hillary and her winged monkeys warming up on this issue. Maybe they got wind of the fact that Bush was about to outsmart them again?

Does it really matter what he actually proposes? We lose ground just by having him include the topic on his policy agenda.

All subjects are discussed in the SOTU. It's the standard formula. You'll hear about him getting a partial birth abortion bill that NEVER would have passed without him. You'll hear about fighting a war in Iraq to kill the enemy there before the enemy kills your daughter at some local mall with a dirty bomb. You'll hear about school choice and vouchers. You'll hear about faith based initiatives for volunteerism. You'll hear about him presenting himself as an obstacle to what sort of confiscation of your guns would occur under liberal Democrats.
And you'll hear about how he has managed not to disgrace the presidency, which is something you can't rely on liberal Democrats to avoid.
You're going to hear about health care in the SOTU because you always do, from any president. It's formula. What you won't hear about is midnight basketball funding.

...Mr Bush need(s) to understand that the availability and affordability of health care are NOT functions of the U.S. Federal Government. That's oldthink. You need to get your mind right. A night or two in the box should do it.

Honestly, I don't know whether to be happy or dissapointed. I sent W some bucks already, but I will be waiting a couple months before sending another. What would be better, spending-happy Pubs running two branches of government, or the rats with the white house, forcing the Pub congressional leadership to grow some cajones?
