A French priest has been found guilty of "provoking discrimination, hatred or violence" for comments he made critical of the Quran, Islam's holy book.
Philippe Sulmont, 82, was fined $990 for expressing his thoughts in a letter to his parishioners in Domqueur in 2002, Agence France-Presse reported.
"The Asiatics proliferate and invade our land, bringing with them an ideology that threatens the whole world," he wrote.
"Indeed I would add there is no such thing as 'moderate' Islam. All the populations infected by the Muslim religion are indoctrinated by the Quran a holy book which is the manual for the extension of the kingdom of the devil at the expense of the kingdom of Christ."
Sulmont was required to give one euro to the organization that sought his conviction, the League of Human Rights. He also must pay for the judgment to be published in two local newspapers, AFP reported.
Meanwhile, Welsh actor John Rhys-Davies of "Lord of the Rings" fame is under fire for comments he made about Europe's Muslim population, saying it was a "demographic catastrophe" threatening "Western civilization."

Whoa! Imagine the fine if the priest were to repeat the first of the Ten Commandments!
"I am the LORD your God
"
(1) "You shall have no other gods before Me."
(this applies to Allah, Mohammad, Buddha, et. al.)
Has France declared the Bible a hate book? Canada already has by not allowing pastors to read any scripture regarding homosexuality over the air.

How long before we start getting punishments in this country for "hate speech"?
CAIR is already suing everyone in sight for defamation any time something is said or written they don't like.

I think they already specialize in sponsorship of jihads.

Holy crap. Sign this boy up! The fact that this sentence was uttered by a priest just impresses the hell outta me. What a Freeper he'd make.

Post this on your wall. Truer words were never spoken. God bless this man. Pity that in the face of Islam, only the old are brave.

Great priest. Has anyone been fined for insulting priests?

Awesome. This is a man of integrity, if he's to be judged by this statement.
I would not mind being in his place, being the recipient of a "fine" for having spoken God's truth.
What an adventure those of us who are in the Truth are in for. Just a "sneek peek" at the ending: we (who are in Christ) win.

Too bad it's just the occasional celebrity with his head screwed on right that dares utter the truth before the mass media. Too bad this actor has more courage vis-a-vis his career than anyone now running for President of the United States.

(IC Wales 18 Jan 04) ...LAST NIGHT we spoke to John Rhys-Davies from his Hollywood home and asked him to defend his opinions.
Here's what he said...
I BELIEVE in racial equality not racial discrimination. All I was commenting on was that there are cultural changes taking place in Europe that I consider to be unacceptable.
The fact that a minister of the French government has to fly to Cairo to talk with one of the religious heads in one of the mosques to get his approval for a ban on headscarves can be seen in two ways.
One, is how wonderfully culturally sensitive. The other, it seems to give an authority to a wholly unelected figure well outside Europe's jurisdiction.
I am really proud to be living in a society that accepts women as our equals, that accepts civilised discourse that allows people to hold different opinions without coming to any act of violence.
Here in America when that earthquake happened in Iran the reaction of everyone I knew was horror and dismay, the reaction of everyone when they heard that the old woman had been brought out alive long after they thought there was anyone there was absolute awe at the extraordinary capacity of the human spirit to survive. Contrast that with people jumping up and down and clapping at the 9/11 disaster in certain countries.
I don't think that Western society is opposed to Islamic society at all. I think a very important part of Islamic society is opposed to Western society.
It is time that ordinary Muslims stood up to be counted.
Most societies can benefit from a good stirring of genes, but most cultures are tolerant of each other. I do not see Buddhists throwing bombs into Christian churches, I do not see Christians blowing up Hindu temples, I do not see those sorts of challenges.
When we are prepared to overlook certain things because we don't want to rock the boat, this is wrong.
The greatest act of racism is to expect that other people will not behave according to your values and standards.
Yes, I am for dead, (traditional) white male culture. It's pretty damn good, pretty damn marvellous, pretty wonderful. That's not to exclude other cultures, but it's not to diminish mine.
I'm sorry that might be perceived as infringing some sort of racial taboo, it's certainly not intended to be a racial remark.
We are losing the ability to sit down and be able to have a tolerable argument.
I do not want to see a society where, should I ever have any, my granddaughters have their fingernails pulled out because they are wearing nail varnish.
I hope that my friends and relatives in Wales are not going to be shocked by what they are going to read about.
Do not brand me a racist because I am most certainly not.
But I will stand by this: Western Christianised Europe has values and experience that is worth defending.

How long before we start getting punishments in this country for "hate speech"? It will start with hate speech crimes for those who oppose homosexuality on religious grounds. It might spread to speaking against Islam. Regardless, its coming here, in our lifetime, and Christians must stop fighting each other and unite to support and pray for each other in the dark times enveloping us.

The Godless Socialist establishment is now firmly ensconced into the French political machine, and is in the process of stamping out the last vestiges of free expression and independent thought. This is the very thing that we're fighting against in this country, and it's a fight we have to win.

Going to get interesting, that's for sure.

How long before we start getting punishments in this country for "hate speech"? People are already getting punished for hate speech in this country. Furthermore, it doesn't even have to be hateful, just political speech that someone doesn't like. I read a couple of weeks ago that the Secret Service arrested a man who wouldn't move off a quarter mile from where Bush was set to speak (the man was carrying a sign objecting to some Bush policy). It wasn't a security issue. The Secret Service told him flat out that it just didn't like the message on his sign.
The man refused to move. The police arrested him. He was convicted and fined. The judge said he wasn't going to second guess the Secret Service. I say "why not?", especially when the Secret Service is abridging our constitutional right to voice our complaints to any public official, including even the president.

I think Islam is definitely going to be the problem of this coming century. It is being aided and abetted by political correctness, and the dangerous thing is that this is preventing people from even discussing the real nature of the problem.
I have nothing against Middle Eastern folk or even against Muslims in general. But they have something against us - namely, the fact that we're not Muslims - and they are the ones initiating the conflict. But anyone who points this out is somehow guilty of hate speech.

When the Pope Kissed the Koran
By Stephen Hand
editor, TCRNews.com
Back in 1999, on the 14th of May, according to the Patriarch of the Chaldeans, at the end of an audience between the Pope and some delegates of the Islamic Shiite and Sunni factions, the Pope bowed as a sign of respect toward a copy of the Koran which was presented to him as a gift. When the book was officially presented to him, the Pope, perhaps a bit perplexed concerning the appropriate protocol for such an official gesture, kissed it; again, as a sign of respect toward the 34 million followers of Islam. The event was reported by the Fides news service. It turned out to be more controversial a sign than the Pope and Vatican ever expected, since both Neomodernist and Integrist reactionaries pounced on it. The former to suggest that all religions were essentially one, and the latter to suggest that the Pope had, well, er, left the Faith.

Actually, the French government used to murder people for insulting priests.
Currently they penalize priests for giving sermons, but it could change at any time for no reason at all.

Rhyes-Davies is almost there. This is the part he doesn7t get yet:
"Indeed I would add there is no such thing as 'moderate' Islam. All the populations infected by the Muslim religion are indoctrinated by the Quran a holy book which is the manual for the extension of the kingdom of the devil at the expense of the kingdom of Christ."
When an "ordinary Muslim" stands up to be counted, my advice is, shoot first.

In case you were wondering if Domqueur was somewhere in Morocco or Algeria, it is in France. A tiny spot north of Paris, famous for its catacombs. It's worth noting that this priest was being fined for something he said in his church bulletin. I wonder if the hate crimes law is similar to the libel law, where truth is an absolute defense.
As for John Rhys-Davies, one remarkable thing about his anti-Arab sentiments is that he first came to our attention by playing an Arab in the first and third Indiana Jones movies, and I think he also played Gamal Nasser in a TV movie about Sadat.
