Susan Ford finally staged a jailbreak. Like Mandy Moore's character in the recent movie "Chasing Liberty," Ford found that life as a teenager in the White House could be stifling.

"I kept thinking 'I want to be normal. But I can't be normal,' " says Ford, now Susan Ford Bales and the mother of two daughters. "Everyone was watching. It was like living out loud."

we were supposed to go to a Hall and Oates concert that night. And the Secret Service had the tickets.

NOOOOOOOOOO! All these years, I thought Susan Ford was cool.

Chelsea Clinton is generally awarded the trophy for having the toughest time as a first daughter

Well, that's only because her (alleged) father was a serial rapist and her mother is the spawn of Satan, it isn't like either of these 2 facts are her fault. You don't get to choose your parents, you can only choose when to go on your merry little way. LOL

America owes Amy Carter a debt of gratitude for refusing to talk to the press. We'd have to see her picture and listen to her drivel.

Too bad her dad won't follow her example.

Amy Carter doll? That had to be a hot seller in the 70s. Although, I had a Lynda Carter doll myself.

But, as a typical 13-year-old, when she turned on "Saturday Night Live," she didn't expect to hear the cast making fun of her looks. Myers not only sent a note of apology after a protest from the White House, but also the comments were cut out of the tape for replays

The part about Chelsea isn't even on the web, but I think I have it on tape. The comment wasn't that bad.

Quick question, I remember reading somewhere that (in general, not always) children of the president usually go on to have some very sad and wretched lives.

Your take?

While manning the College Republicans booth at Stanford a few years ago, our son was stunned to see Chelsea walk by and flash him a smile.

He said she's much cuter in person. There was a standing policy that no gossip was to be printed about her in the school paper, and anyone even writing about her would be threatened with suspension.

Quentin Roosevelt.....Teddy Roosevelt Jr.

Teddy Roosevelt Jr. went on to become a Brigadier General and died of a heart attack in Normandy after the D-Day landing.

Quentin Roosevelt went on to become a fighter pilot in the 95th Aero Squadron during World War One. He was shot down and died on July 14, 1918. The Nieuport 28 in the U.S. Air Force Museum is painted with the "Kicking Mule" insignia of Quentin's 95th Aero Squadron.

I have heard that too. I don't know for sure. It seems the daughters I posted have all had good lives after their Father's terms. Patti Davis' life has been sketchy after the fact, but it would have been of her own making.

Something else, I personally got to know James Roosevelt (FDR son) in the late 70s. He was a great guy with a great house in Newport Beach, CA. He loved talking history to a young punk like me.

I can't believe I read the whole thing. :-)

And, by and large, enjoyed it, too.

Good article.

I especially liked the part where Clinton couldn't help his daughter with her algebra homework. WHY am I NOT surprised?

(And I bet W has NO problems with that stuff.)
