[history]
No other comedian consistently tweaks as many nerves, churns as many stomachs and terrorizes as many conservatives as George Carlin.
The man is a menace.
"The more resistance and discomfort I can feel from the audience, the better I feel," Carlin explains contentedly in a phone interview. "The happier I am."

How much does George charge for one of his shows? From reading his views, I would imagine it is a very minimal amount---only enough to cover overhead and pay him wages of $5.00 per hour for his time on the stage, right?

He's your hippy dippy weatherman with your hippy dippy weathter, man.

I'm not liberal. I'm just about (being) anti-United States. I'm not humorless. I'm just about (being) anti-Carlin.
To: poindexters brother
It's a shame that The Hippy-Dippy Weatherman (along with Wonderful WINO) still stands as Carlin's best bit and that was nearly 40 years ago.

Carlin does a GREAT job skewering the politically-correct.

This country has been, for about 180 years now, badly mishandled. And it's been in the wrong hands. It's been in the hands of the business interests. Who controlled the country during those wonderful days that ended in 1824? The entertainers?

Those are the things humans most need to function, and we have placed them at the bottom of the list. Ah yes, and like any good wannabe dictator/socialist he wants to be the one to determine what's necessity and what is not.
Another well known person put it more succinctly, I think it went something like this:
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Which is it George, we're drowning in consumerism, or we're killing off the poor? Which is it...
Everybody's got more jet skis and Dustbusters now and sneakers with lights in them. They've got more... ...The most interesting thing to me is that the things that people would seem to have the most right to have - that is to say health, food, shelter and a job are the things that are last on the list.
The biggest "gap" in this country is the one between the left and ride sides of the national brain.

Carlin does a GREAT job skewering the politically-correct. I am open to persuasion with true bits from his act. However, I believe that some of the emails I have seen that supposedly came from George Carlin on this subject are bogus.

George Carlin, in his own words:
I'm one of the best ones out there. I sell 250,000 tickets a year.
See, Americans measure all their progress in the wrong way. They measure by quantity and by gizmos and toys.
The most interesting thing to me is that the things that people would seem to have the most right to have - that is to say health, food, shelter and a job are the things that are last on the list.
I would not presume to take one thing away from George Carlin, but consider this:
250,000 x $35/seat (SWAG at his cut) = $8.75 million/year
Does Carlin give every cent of his money away?
Then why does he feel I should give any of mine to someone else?
What exactly has business and industry done to mankind that Carlin objects to?

The guy's funny , you have to give him that. So is Robin Williams . As far as working cheap , its one thing knocking bigmoney and another making it. This is the greatest country in the world , a place where Carlin admits to being anti-American and he can still work. maybe he should try his act in Iran, or North Korea. see how many laughs he gets there knocking one of the Mullahs, or the little crazy man who runs Korea. Every American has something he sees could be changed for the better in America, but most of us appreciate what we dont have to change, just what we have to protect, and being conservative is protecting the Constitution.

"...right-wing Christians, the Ashcroft branch of Republicanism. (They're) just shredding the rest of the Bill of Rights..." Poor George. He so selective and one-sided with his criticism of who is reponsible for the destruction of the Bill of Rights.
Has he forgotten, conveniently I am sure, who has destroyed parts of the First Amendment, the entire Second Amendment, the entire Fourth Amendment, parts of the Fifth Amendment, and the entire Tenth Amendment?
It was the the groups are people mentioned in his list above, nor was it "business."

LOLOLOLOL!! Very funny--how many of those in his college audiences could identify that source at Marx---and I don't mean Groucho!!!

This country has been, for about 180 years now, badly mishandled....Ayup....really badly mishandled so that dropouts like Carlin can trash it whenever he wants.
We are about the same age.
I wonder how well he would have fared in Nazi Germany or the Communist Soviet Union or Mao's China during his earlier years?
The hippy-dippy weatherman was funny.....Doonesbury...was funny......
Then, like Hollywood freaks, everybody's gotta trash the country that gave them opportunity.
I just don't understand!

Carlin IS generally politically-correct. Just reread this interview.

The right to PURSUE happiness doesn't give me the right to happiness.
I pursue good health in many ways but have the mother-of-all-colds right now. Can I sue someone?
Food, shelter and jobs are earned. Americans don't have rights to them! Soviets do. Well, they did before their country imploded. You can bet most of them didn't think they had the right job, or the right shelter or the right food either. When the gov't gives you the right to a job, don't be surprised if you don't like the job!

How many 66 year olds spent their whole life in entertainment and obviously never made enough to retire?
Sounds like his angst for businessmen run more along the line of jealousy.
