Castro Loves the Guns He Won't Let Cubans Have

Paranoid dictator Fidel Castro of course won't let Cuban citizens have gun rights, but he seems to be a fan of Charlton Heston's famous line about gun grabbers prying his weapon from his "cold, dead hands!"

Castro today claimed again that America was plotting to overthrow him and vowed to die fighting "with a gun in my hand" if the U.S. raided his tropical gulag.

"I don't care how I die, but for sure, if they invade us, I will die fighting," the 77-year-old tyrant said in Havana at a meeting of anti-free-trade activists from across the Western Hemisphere.

"We know that Mr. Bush has committed himself to the mafia [free Cuban Americans] ... to assassinate me," Castro told his fellow travelers during a five-hour rant.

No word yet on what Castro's anti-gun-rights Hollywood fan club thinks of its idol's love of firearms.

Well, Saddam said the same thing. A punk's a punk.

If Dubya or anyone else in the office wanted Castro dead it'd take one one shot from a Predator or a laser-guided smart bomb. And every tinpot despot in the world knows it.

When Fidel and his 26 de Julio associates got the word that Cuban dictator Batista had fled the country on December 31, 1958 and the country was de facto in the hands of the victorious rebels, they did what victorious rebels generally do when their hated despot flees the scene: they held a victory parade.

On January 2, 1959, Castro and 600 of his bearded rebels marched into Havana wearing new uniforms taken from the former national army, and riding on captured or appropriated vehicles, including Sherman tanks supplied to the Batista regime by the US government. Thoughtfully, Fidel left the scoped .30-06 Winchester Model 70 rifle he'd carried since he and eighty-one others landed in Cuba from Mexico on the boat Granma in December of 1956 in his hotel room. Where it was stolen.

He replaced it with a Belgian FAL rifle, ordered from the manufacturer by Batista but delivered after Castro's rebeldes had siezed power. When the Brigada 2506 invaders struck at the Bay of Pigs a few years later, the FAL was the rifle he carried when he arrived at the scene to meet the invaders. More recently, he's been seen carrying a grunt-issue Kalishnikov.

Castro cant stand that we are waiting for him to die in a "let him fade away" strategy. There will be no swan song... just demensia and death.

Hot Damn maybe they still have these Shermans--maybe even in running order! After all the Cubans operate so many other aged motor vehicles perhaps the tanks are among them.

George Bush isn't the only one planning on assassinating him.
He's dead meat if he shows up in Rae County.

"..."I don't care how I die, but for sure, if they invade us, I will die fighting," ....."

Yeah right Fidelito, we heard that from your brother Saddam too.

Just one of them, per following.

Cuba: M4A3 Sherman Medium Tank

7 were acquired in 1957 as Batista began to battle Castro (and are only included here because this model was manufactured prior to 1947). 7 were still operational in January 1959 when Castro defeated Batista and took control of Cuba. Only one tank survives as an exhibit in Cuba today.
