I didn't see the Jackson incident because I had already left the room in disgust. I don't know why I keep thinking that the half-time shows will be exciting and inspirational and patriotic. Silly me.

I did think that the National Anthem was done well, and I appreciated the tribute to the crew of Columbia. But the half-time show was wasted air time.

This is an internationally televised event, and the best we could do was to showcase some aging rockers and rap stars? I will tell you this: once a year the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the center of attention, and Tony George wouldn't allow anything like this. The opening for the race features the Purdue Band, a decent presentation of the national anthem, a flyover (this year a Stealth bomber) and a tasteful parade of celebrities and actual heroes. There is nothing even remotely resembling the Super Bowl half-time, and the Indianapolis 500 seems to garner high ratings and makes buckets of money.

The following are Viacom owned companies. A conservative parent's worst nightmare.

Remember Simon & Schuster who paid Hillary $8 million for her book & CBS did that lovely hatchet job on President Reagan with Mr. Streisand.

It all makes sense.

When is anyone going to stand up and say that rap music is, by and large, the product of a degraded society?

I'll say it. Its the spot on truth.

I'm with you. I was disgusted long before Janet Jackson's finale. I don't know why the NFL feels like it has to pander to the dregs of society. "Hip hop," "rap," "crap," it's all the same. A guy called into the local sports talk station and complained about the halftime show appealing to "people in the ghetto and the trailer park," and the show hosts got down on him for being "racist." Race has nothing to do with it. It's not about race, it's about culture, or lack of it. It's about taste. Frankly, it's racist to assume that the African-American community in this country subscribes to trash which is represented as "entertainment." This isn't a "culture," it's a cancer.

Speaking of children; imagine sitting down to watch the game w/ your 6 yr old son or daughter only to see a middle- aged woman have her shirt ripped of during the half-time performance. Talk about values.

Also, Kid Rock has some musical talent and Janet Jackson had some once upon a time, but Puffy and Timberlake are nothing but marketing. All hat, no cattle.

She is stupid and the top brass at CBS should be tarred, feathered and run out of town for allowing her to do it...

"I want you to listen to me, and I will wave my finger at you so that you understand me, so listen, and I will say it again, I have never. ever, never had s.. etc.etc."

Is that not what we can expect after our former President was flashed by thongs in the W.H. and then performed a "cool" act in the Oval Office, and he's still go around bragging he now has such a good, etc.???

If the NFL would book good musicians like Norah Jones (who as far as I know doesn't perform topless) for the halftime show, that would be a great start.

If Timberlake pulled part of her clothes off by accident, then why didn't he do the gentleman thing and jump in front of her to cover it up? Doesn't he know he has something in his hand? Why did Jackson stand there and keep facing the camera? Wouldn't she have turned and covered quickly once a draft was felt? Her facial expression wasn't "OMG, I'm so embarrassed. What the heck happened."

An accident......sure....duh.

Not sure but it is the same colors as the clothes (jacket and bra) that she is wearing. Did he tear it away. The party I was at was too busy with other fun to watch some old half naked hag in a half dressed time show.

We turned the station during halftime, we aren't Janet or Justin fans, we missed all the hoopla over the top coming off. It should be on MTV then you would know whats coming at ya! I felt sorry for all the parents that had their kids still up and watched all the bumping/grinding(talent?) and all the rest.

Alright, Michael Powell. Big fines, and I mean BIG FINES for CBS, NFL & VIACOM for clear violation of standards and practices.

I'm curious to see if AOL sues Viacom for the value of their sponsorship contract. That'd be good for AOL and bad for CBS.

Hello! Serena?

A few of my friends (and myself) could bring an all-star orchestra and together we could do a major choral number and beat those no-talents any time, day, or place. A halftime doing Carmina Burana (which includes the Sean Hannity theme song) or other major works would defeat the MTV smut or even that smutty Lingerie Bowl any day!

Here's what I'd penalise:

NFL: $500,000
Viacom: $15 million for CBS, $15 million for MTV
Every CBS affiliate: $1 million (each)

If CBS keeps the NFL contract, losing its turn on the Super Bowl. Will have to wait until 2009 (XLIII) and skip its scheduled turn in 2007.

Ban Spike TV from bidding on NFL rights, ban NFL-related programming on MTV Networks.

I must speak up in defense of the rap & hip hop community. This is just one genre where the filth has infiltrated it. Please do not say that the 'cancer' which you speak of is coming from Rap because it's NOT!

Rap and hip hop is one of the coolest music forms born out of America. It is fricking cool and the rest of the world knows it. As a mother of two girls, I of COURSE do not APPROVE of the objectification and sexualization of women. However, the art of rapping is a legitimate and skillful genre. I have a lot of respect for many Rap and Hip Hop artists. Don't blame the Rap, cuz that ain't the problem.

Fair enough. I know of Christian groups who perform rap and hip-hop, but the predominance of the secular artists of those genre seem to glorify debased behavior and attitudes.
