Moore Trouble: Alabama's former chief justice may challenge Bush for the religious vote

A big threat to President Bush's re-election could come if his conservative base chooses not to turn out and vote in large numbers this fall. That's one reason he told a congressional Republican retreat on Saturday that he supports spending caps on the exploding federal budget. But the president could also still face a challenge from a social conservative running as a third-party candidate.

"I am tired of judges who won't let us pray at high school graduations, football games and in public buildings pushing people of faith around," he thundered.

Matthew 6:5-6 "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen."

Wonder if he would pick Trancadero (sp?) as his running mate?

Thank you. Let's not forget the scriptures in which Jesus describes the hypocricy of Pharisees who want to be seen praying in public in order to gain the approval of men.
I'm so tired of hearing about this Judge Moore and his antics as if he some sort of hero of the faith. The idea he would challenge Bush for the religious vote is obnoxious. He is an embarrassment.

I hate to say it.

But if he does run, it could hurt bush BADLY. If not badly, then enough to tip the scales.

Many conservatives are just aching to vote FOR someone because they want to, not because they feel they have no choice. Many will not give a hoot about the consequences.

Apparently some people think that a backbone is undesirable in leaders!

I wouldn't want to confuse "backbone" with misguided stubborness regarding less than worthy causes.

If he runs, siphons and splits social conservatives and a Democrat wins, it would be a huge negative blow to the social conservatives, would lock in Roe v Wade for another decade, maybe a generation, and would certainly help the ACLU destroy the freedom of religious expression in the public square. A lot of bad rulings the ACLU has caused and it cant be walked back through over-reaching.

This guy is therefore an idiot if he is thinking of doing this.

It is unfortunate he prefers grandstanding rather than winning the culture war. Judge Moore could have easily made his point by instead of defying that court order, simply enshrouding it with a statement declaring "The Ten Commandments have been stricken from the courtroom, but not from our hearts". He could have erased the 10Cs but left all the other quotations - to make his point even more! So many intelligent approaches could have been taken that would have shown the ACLU to be arrogant bigotted asses, yet they werent (sigh).

Schools are allowing Muslim prayer rooms to be set up at schools, and children are excused to attend prayers. However, Christian children are prevented from prayer anywhere, anytime. I don't have a problem with the Muslim prayer rooms, but then don't tell me my child cannot also pray. That's selective discrimination.

If you want stubbornness, try arguing with me.:)

I love arguing with stubborn posters. Never give up and NEVER-EVER admit you are wrong. I think stubbornness is a great character trait. :)

And it makes for lively FR message board entertainment.
